We recently tackled the Abandon Ship room at Puzzled in Taffs Well, and it turned out to be a genuinely enjoyable and memorable escape room experience. What We Loved • Great balance of tech and traditional puzzles The room blends modern mechanisms with classic puzzle‑solving in a way that feels natural and satisfying. • A well‑thought‑out story with clear objectives The narrative was easy to follow, and we always understood what we were working toward. • Unique puzzles that required real thought Several puzzles stood out as clever and refreshingly different from what we’ve seen elsewhere. • Immersive details and personal touches Without giving anything away, the extra personal touches added to the room were super impressive. They made the environment feel more authentic and elevated the whole experience. What Could Be Improved • A slightly confusing start The opening moments left us unsure of what we were meant to do, and it took a little while to get our bearings. Once we got going, everything flowed well. Overall A solid, well‑designed escape room with thought‑provoking puzzles and a strong sense of immersion. Abandon Ship offers a great mix of challenge, creativity, and atmosphere — a great all‑round escape room experience.

Amazing! First time at Puzzled and will most definitely be back. Loved the personalisation of the room, as well as the immersion and the flow of the puzzles. Very well paced and loved the tech! Brilliant. Up there with one of the best rooms we have done (and we've done alot).

Abandon Ship saw us dropped in by helicopter to investigate why a ship had become stranded in the Celtic Sea. Our task was simple: to start the engine and bring it back to shore. Given the title of the room, I’m sure you’ve worked out that this task is not as straightforward as it sounds… Ben was our GM for this game and was on hand to offer any assistance, including some very amusing, snarky comments. These were delivered to us via the ship’s computer, which took us by surprise. It wasn’t the only element of personalisation in the room, as I also found myself mentioned in a newspaper article. These personal touches really elevate the experience. All of the rooms at Puzzled Escapes are driven by technology, but also include more traditional mechanical puzzles and locks. Abandon Ship is the closest to a traditional escape room experience, with multiple spaces to explore. These were nicely themed, with plenty of space to move around. It is worth noting that at one point, a team member will need to be comfortable crawling through a confined space. The range of puzzle types was great, with a mix of thinky puzzles, screen-based tasks and tactile challenges. One minute you’ll be hunting for a physical key, the next frantically flicking through a manual to deal with a crisis. There were several points where the team split off into smaller groups to tackle different puzzles. As the game reached its climax, we all came back together to defeat the hidden enemy and save the day. It was a lot of fun!

Great room. Very well thought out. My 13 year old son did it with me and was very suitable. The level of detail and the tech involved was another level.

An absolutely fantastic room. Techy but not in your face, beautifully tactile. Everything felt as if it was meant to be there, which is always lovely to find in escape rooms.

We had a wonderful time here at Puzzled escapes today, Kevin our host was wonderful and the added touches to the game integrating the name of our son into parts of the game was a very nice touch. My Mrs said that the abandoned ship has become one of her favourite rooms as and I quote "really got that one" which is high praise indeed for an escape room. We will be back for sure.

We really thought we were on a boat, what had happend to the boat? We cannot tell you, it would give it away !!

Customer service

The team there were wonderful despite us turning up 40 mins early (my fault not theirs) very welcoming, very proud of their rooms which is very understanding having played one of them now.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

The story is that the ship has shown up empty and we were sent in to investigate what had happened to it, which we found out. and we have yet to play battleships in an escape room to date so that was new to us.

The puzzles were good, I must admit I spent a lot of my time trying to restart the engines so I didn't see a lot of the first part of the room but my partner and daughter smashed that bit out and enjoyed it whilst doing it.

There was a bit to crawl through but it was lined and comfortable to crawl through and there was also a mechanic to skip the crawlspace if you don't want to do it.

A good room with fun puzzles. We had particular problems with one puzzles and found there was lack of guidance/ instruction if you are not familiar with rules of the game.

We have never played battleship before. This was problematic for one puzzle and the room lacked guidance or instructions - which became very frustrating.

Thanks for pointing this out Beth we really appreciated the feedback. A few months back when we read your comments, we made a small change to that puzzle to make the rules clearer, and it’s been in place for a few months now. We held off replying until we were confident it had solved the problem, and we’re happy to say it’s already helped other teams get through without hints! It might seem like a small thing, but suggestions like this genuinely help us improve the experience for everyone. We know it’s been a little while since your visit, but wanted to let you know that its genuinely made a difference. We don't want to add any spoilers here so feel free to drop us a DM if you're interested in what we tweaked! Thanks again for visiting and hope we'll see you again very soon for a newest adventure launching later this year!
