Palace Games has discovered another secret inner-sanctum within the walls of the Palace of Fine Arts. This mysterious attraction premiered at San Francisco's World’s Fair in 1915, but was then immediately condemned for reasons unknown. After an arduous restoration effort, Palace Games reopened this secret marvel of the 1915 fair. We've yet to uncover its odd purpose. Are you bold enough to solve the mind-bending mystery of The Attraction?

This was truly one of the most immersive experiences of my life. The puzzles were fun and engaging, characters were unforgettable, and interactive and immersive elements second to none. Wonderful “room” and experience, delightful throughout.

We loved this game! It was full of plot twists and shocking discoveries, and it incorporated a lot of different puzzles, strategies, and games. I wish I could replay it because I had so much fun.

Visual wise the room was great. The atmosphere was amazing and the story was well integrated and well done. Super techy and has one of the coolest “transitions” I’ve ever seen. The puzzles themselves were easy, and felt more repetitive than challenging. Gm was super nice and showed us a little behind the scenes after we escaped

Gameplay

Not very puzzley but the gameplay was super fun to do. Really techy and cool but it was a little repetitive

Like all of the Palace Games, the gameplay is very intelligent. Every puzzle has multiple steps with some layering on top of each other making you think in ways you’ve never thought before. This gameplay here is the most experimental of the Palace Games. All sections are distinctly different from each other, with some parts being abstract and bending reality while other sections being very straightforward but puzzle dense (and some having… barely any puzzles admittedly. I thought all of it was very interesting to play and there was nothing I hated, but a lot of it can come off as vague and/or repetitive (and confusing for some) and there’s not any super standout puzzles. Story wise The Attraction is the opposite of the other games. While the others are extremely light on story, this game has about as much story as possible. The story is extremely overt, which makes it easy to follow, but also makes it seem kind of barebones. But there are some fun twists and story payoff in the second half that makes it come together well. Unfortunately they still have in-person hints here, which are very immersion breaking for this game (but the game makes it mostly unlikely you’ll need them). Unlike the other Palace games, which are pretty bare in set design to match the “1920s World Fair escape room experiment” theme, this one (while bare in moments) goes all out on set design in certain areas, and it’s beautiful. I also wish there was a bit more. Even though it can take up to 2 hours, it wastes a lot of time on some early stuff that could be shorter, and as I said the story picks up very late into it, so I left the game wishing there was more. But after all this analysis, the fact is: this game is amazing. It is a massive experimental marvel in design that really needs to be tried! (Oh yeah also be prepared to look up a lot, do neck stretches or something or you’ll be in minor pain) Palace Games Ranking: 1. Edison (true immersion through puzzles) 2. Attraction (true immersion through… immersion) 3. Roosevelt (Houdini but more of it) 4. Houdini (still one of my favorite games)

I mean… there’s so much tech there’s a couple things that aren’t going to work well enough during the game l, but you’ll get through well enough

It’ll be hard to get out of the lot if there happens to be a fleet week flying show overhead at the exact same time, but that’s oddly specific hopefully it won’t happen to you

The Attraction is not really an Escape Room and more of an experience. There was major hype going into this experience from the reviews I read and I tried to go into it level-headed. Well, I was really let down by this experience. First room was fine and the puzzle was an easy concept to grasp, even though we struggled for a bit. Regardless, moving into the spaceship we were having a good time. The spaceship was something different, although we have seen this concept before. The 2nd main room (1st planet you visit) was difficult for us to understand with the 1st set of puzzles. It seemed like it may have been malfunctioning as it was extremely repetitive, it took us a long time, and we became extremely frustrated because it seemed like we kept doing the same thing over-and-over. I know The Palace Games tries to be extremely immersive with no GM interaction, but it made it frustrating that we could not get a nudge, as we could not move forward and it felt like it took forever to get to the next set of puzzles in this 1st planet room. This repetitive, possibly malfunctioning room is what killed the experience for us. The Library was a cool room and almost saved this experience for us as it did bring some fun and energy, but it was still nothing spectacular. There was a cool reveal in this room and the height of the ceiling was impressive. As we entered the last room, our group was over this experience and we flew through the last room in a few minutes. The GM knew that half of our party “checked-out” since the 1st planet room and either the room was very easy or the GM made it easier for us so we would just be done. We finished with 15 mins on the clock so not sure. This last room did have some cool decor though in the forest-like setting. Overall, we were disappointed with game play and sets. Besides the library room, sets and games/puzzles were nothing special, with no really cool reveals, which contradicted some reviews. Spaceship was kind of cool but repetitive. The quality of the room sets and the tech aspect was impressive, but it seemed to be overused at times, and possibly malfunctioned in the 1st planet room. Sorry to say that The Attraction was not worth the price of admission, even if you brought 8 people (please note that bringing more than 4-5 would be too many though). Paying over $400 for any type of experience should give you a really fun and special experience…this gave us neither. I really wanted to like The Attraction and looked forward to doing this room for months in advance, but it did not give us much fun and did not impress us as much as many of the 60 to Escape (in IL and WI) and Exit Games (FL) rooms did. I have done almost 40 rooms, so I think my opinion does have some credibility, so please know that this room may not be for you. I really wish we would have done The Edison rather than The Attraction as The Edison is more of a traditional ER, which we probably would have enjoyed more.

TBH I would’ve given this a thumbs down for an escape room experience, but it’s a fun time with friends if you’re willing to shell out this much money for it. Attraction is a newer room and has some cool tech that they clearly put a lot of work into! That being said, I feel like this room is more of a “doing mini games with your friends that are varying levels of puzzley” experience rather than an actual escape room (similar to how Lollyland is a “doing mini golf with your friends that’s sometimes puzzley” experience). I liked it, I had a good time. The puzzles were mostly mediocre to bad, with one room being the exception. The second room especially was a underwhelming for me given it was hard for more than one person to really “work” on the puzzle at once, and some of the mini games in between were clearly a “no fail” situation where I would’ve preferred… not that. Anyways all in all, feels kinda blasphemous to not give this room a glowing review because everyone I have in Morty has hearted it, but yeah. A fun experience, but I actually enjoyed Palace Games’s other rooms a lot more.
