You arrive at a nondescript black door with a green light... You knock. The door slowly swings open and you're invited in... Welcome to Stash House Your group has been invited to a seemingly-normal Koreatown apartment owned by a local entrepreneur to discuss a business opportunity. Shortly after arriving, you discover the apartment belongs to Ray Jones, notorious Los Angeles drug kingpin, and that Ray has a test in store for you: find all the drugs hidden in the space and flush them before the cops arrive or face the consequences. Stash House is a ninety-minute escape experience that explores the dark underbelly of crime in Los Angeles. Does your crew have what it takes to pass the test?

This was very fun. Our group had 4 people and that was definitely not enough for the amount of things to do in this room. Some of the puzzles take a long time to solve. Would have loved to have at least 6 people for this.

I highly recommend this escape room to anyone who might be hesitating about the fact that it’s an apartment. Wow Moment Count: 4 or more, I lost track at some point. This escape room contains so many wow moments that really are worth the time. There are a few elements that are really quite COOL.

Puzzles

This room has some of the more challenging puzzles I’ve encountered, and multiple times throughout you are in awe of what surprises the puzzles have in store.

Atmosphere

When I suggested this escape room to my friends, they were hesitant about the idea of an apartment as an escape room. After all, there are so many mystical or wondrous other rooms to do instead. Despite this, this room manages to be the most immersive room I have done. You quickly realize that this kingpin’s place is more than it seems and it leaves you content with how everything links together.

Customer service

Our GM was spectacular and was integral to making our experience whole.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

I love the idea of clues being received through texting, because not only are you able to easily see and communicate, but it keeps you immersed and lets you review past clues without needing to ask again.

Story

This escape room was just so satisfying from start to finish, leaving us worn out but pleased with the conclusion.

Difficulty

Medium

There are some challenging puzzles that may or may not connect for you, but the room tries to help everyone get through it, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There is a section where locks are maybe a little overused, but that can be done by one member while the rest work on other things.

Ideal number of players

4

This room has quite a few puzzles that you have access to fairly early on that, at some times feel overwhelming, so having 4-6 people who can pair up and work together is a good idea.

Although I love the immersive idea of a random door on the street with no signage at all, this made my group question if we were in the right place and feel a little lost. I know the concept is that it’s nondescript, but some form of signal(other than the green light since it’s hard to see in the day) would have been nice.

Very different type of room. Throw out what you are use to. Best of played with 6 or more. There are plenty of things for people to do.

This was such a blast! I was hesitant about this house only because I didn’t know what to expect and a room about trying to become a gang member and proving yourself by going to a house to flush drugs didn’t seem like a super great topic for a group of white people to be “playing” at in 2022 given the history. Now having gone, I will say that the story is more like “what if you wanted to work for Tony Montana” and you’re breaking into his penthouse rather than a staged house for a gang. You are told that you’re there to try to become a part of a gang but there’s nothing that you have to do beyond solving normal escape room puzzles. We had such a great time. We did it with a group of 4, but I will say that we are a very solid team who works super well together. We were able to split up the puzzles between teams of 2 and switch off when needed which I think helped us get out quickly. I would not recommend doing this with a group who has trouble communicating or has several people who try to lead, nor would I recommend this for beginners at all. You have to work well as a team and have an idea of how escape rooms work. There’s not a ton of story but it’s not needed and I think what was there was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the puzzles and found myself able to bounce around - if I got stuck on one I could hop over and see what the other people were doing and help with that. They were also pretty linear puzzles which I really loved bc you didn’t have to keep going back and tracing your steps or figuring out what you missed out. It also helps out with the story when you can solve stuff like that. I can see why this one is hard - I don’t THINK it’s “expert level” but it is not a beginner room and experience with other rooms definitely helped us (although who am I to judge this is the first “hard” room I’ve ever done). I think this room is perfect for people that want a more “grown up” or “realistic” room or just enjoy crime genre. I wasn’t super excited to go bc I’m not into that genre and I had a blast! Also for an hour and a half I thought the price was very fair (just wish we didn’t beat it so quickly only bc we were having such a great time!).

Puzzles

The gameplay was linear and flowed well and had some cool puzzles. Kudos to the whole team behind it.

Atmosphere

Good atmosphere for an apartment that’s supposed to look normal… Weird compliment to give but that’s the story lol. Wish they had a waiting room but that’s just me.

Customer service

Our GM was so cool. I think his name was Justin. He loved our enthusiasm and was super chill and answered all our questions about the game beforehand (we didn’t know what to expect). Afterwards we exchanged different room recommendations for other places for our group and he had great input. Thanks dude!

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

Never played a game that relied on the time period - super cool to see how they worked puzzles into that theme! And without confusing the younger people in our group. And again some very cool puzzles in here.

Story

I would put this kind of in a true crime category? It’s not based off of a real story but imagine you wanted to work for Scarface. Nothing too crazy but made sense and wasn’t what I thought it was going to be luckily.

Difficulty

Hard

Our group didn’t think it was super hard but I apparently know a bunch of geniuses and I think it is pretty involved and does require good teamwork. It’s between medium and hard - tough would be a good middle.

Game tech

Mechanical

Mechanical but not padlocks or machinery - more like using practical things to help show you the next step. And there were def some high tech puzzles but no spoilers.

Ideal number of players

6

We did it with 4. 3 would be the absolute minimum, trust me, and even then I think 4 was a better call. Could easily go up to six or maybe even further… would be a super fun way to do an intimate birthday party.

Crawling, tight stairs, elevated platforms - you could maybe skip the platforms and the crawling if your team communicated well enough but the stairs are unavoidable.

Easy to find location

No

The front of the building is blacked out and looks super closed. Give yourself a few minutes to find it. Took us a second.

Parking

Medium

Ktown parking but in a more neighborhood area… we went during daylight and were fine but I always advise to give yourself a lot of extra time to park in Ktown.

Lots of different types of puzzles, and great for letting the team split up and work on different puzzles before coming back together to move forward. We went with 6, and didn’t feel like we were stepping on each others’ toes. Just a fun room.

The story starts from the moment you arrive in this shady part of LA at this strange building and it’s a rollercoaster ride from there on out. Such great themed puzzles testing a variety of skills and requiring lots of team work. Great for big groups, and I’d recommend at least 4 for this one.

We went as a group of 6 with lots of prior escape room experience and we felt it was the right amount of people for the room. Smaller groups may find it challenging. Puzzles are great and well thought out! Highly recommend!

Puzzles

Well crafted puzzles, lots of varieties, stays on theme throughout. Has a great finale!

Atmosphere

Very impressive and realistic to the theme.

Customer service

Our GM was incredible! Lively, friendly, excited and got us in the escape room solving mood right at the start. He spent some time with us after the game walking us through a few areas, ideas for the future and did an entire photo shoot for our group!

No complaints whats so ever. So far best escape room I’ve done in LA. The story was very interesting and all the puzzles were so unique. This is a MUST DO. We did it in a group of 4 and it was pretty hard we finished with less then 20 seconds left. I’d say 5-6 would be optimal, 6-8 if your new to escape rooms. 2 puzzles were pretty hard but manageable. The hint system was amazing.

Puzzles

AMAZING! It was non-linear but all the puzzles made sense.

Atmosphere

The set was 10/10. It really felt like we were in a stash house!
