Lockbuster Video
60 to Escape - Schaumburg
Escape room
IRL
Rating: 4.5/5 - Currently the top ranked room in Chicago area, and I get why since they do some unique things Pros: ➕ Awesome animatronic character with an interesting personality ➕ Lots of funny moments ➕ Super nostalgic ➕ Lots of easter eggs for their other games ➕ Great looking, high quality set with good audio/lighting effects ➕ Multiple rooms to explore with a cool transition between areas ➕ Tons of tech with only 1 padlock ➕ Decent puzzle variety with many tactile interactions ➕ Very linear which I like, especially for smaller groups ➕ Friendly and helpful GM Could be better: ➖ A couple puzzles that we had issues with but other groups may not have the same trouble. They were not broken, they just weren't intuitive for our team. It's very playable with two players, I'd recommend 2-3 because there are some smaller spaces. My team of 2 finished with more than 10 min left, it is on the easier side. UPDATE: My ranking of 60 to Escape rooms (all locations) so far starting with my favorite. 1. Lockbuster Video ❤️ 2. Cheesie's Pizza Party ❤️ 3. Invasion ❤️ 4. Mystery Manor ❤️ 5. Hidden Temple ❤️ 6. Blast From The Past 👍 7. Jurassic Outpost 👍 8. Arctic Expedition 👍 9. Magic Heist 👍

Rating: 3.5/5 - Enjoyable room, but there are better rooms at 60 to Escape. Pros: ➕ The set was detailed and fairly immersive with good use of lighting/sound ➕ Had easter eggs from their other rooms and Jurassic Park ➕ Mostly tech based puzzles with only a couple of padlocks, but they were used where appropriate ➕ Strong theming, almost everything was dino related ➕ Cool ending with something I've yet to see in the other 150+ rooms I've done ➕ They let you choose the ending to the story ➕ More than 1 room to explore ➕ GM was friendly and helpful Could be better: ➖ No animatronics like in some of their other rooms (they set the bar too high for themselves 😂) ➖ I didn't love the puzzles, nothing stood out to me as particularly interesting or fun (but nothing bad either). They tend to do a lot of "figure out the order or "put in the right position" type puzzles. ➖ Too many puzzles/items are available before you have everything to solve them, this leads to a lot of wasted time. The GM warned us about some of it though. It's playable as a team of two, I'd recommend 3-4. It feels like one of their more difficult rooms. Putt Portal Mystery Golf

Fun game if you're already at the mall or there playing escape rooms, but not worth traveling there just to play golf. The mini golf itself was not too exciting, the 9 holes were fairly simple but had some fun elements and I like that many of the themes relate to some of their rooms. The puzzles were just OK, they can be completed separately from the golf. Only 1 had tech that was integrated into the hole, every other one was very basic word/decoding puzzles that felt tacked on. You do get a prize for solving all the puzzles which is nice. There is a hint system if you need help, it's a QR code leading to a webpage. If there are a lot of people, it can feel crowded. I played this solo and finished in about 30 minutes, I took my time.

Rating: 3.5/5 - Above average room with some fun interactions Pros: ➕ Set looked good enough for the theme ➕ Multiple rooms to discover ➕ Decent variety of puzzles like visual, decoding, and physical manipulation ➕ Mix of tech and padlocks/keys ➕ Fun use of some toys/props ➕ Family friendly ➕Enough flashlights for the whole team, I dislike when rooms only provide 1-2 ➕ GM was friendly and helpful Could be better: ➖Beginning was a bit too search heavy for my tastes ➖Might be too easy for enthusiasts, I played solo with minimal hints and finished with 14 min left They said this is their easiest room, I probably wouldn't want to play it as more than a team of 2 enthusiasts because of how easy it is. They allow solo bookings so this would be a good solo option in Columbus. I preferred this room over Rest Easy Motel since this had more fun puzzles and tech and wasn't as difficult.

Rating: 3/5 - Decent but feels dated in 2025, very mechanical Pros: ➕ Set looked good enough and was nicely weathered/grungy ➕ Multiple rooms to discover ➕ Decent variety of puzzles like physical, visual, and basic arithmetic ➕ Appropriately creepy vibe but no jump scares (except for a couple sudden noises) ➕ Interesting use of some items/props ➕ GM was friendly and helpful Could be better: ➖Too heavily padlock and key based for my tastes, with only a bit of tech mixed in ➖Puzzle style felt dated, like the room was designed in 2015. ➖Puzzles felt a bit too random and not particularly thematic, some I didn't like. ➖Weak narrative They say this is their most difficult room and it felt that way. I'd recommend a team of 3, maybe 4 enthusiasts since there are a lot of puzzles but more than that will feel crowded. Still very playable with 2 though. I played solo and needed more than a few hints/nudges and finished with only 20 sec left, they allow single bookings. I preferred Cat Burglar over this room since that had more fun puzzles and tech and wasn't as difficult.

Rating: 3.5/5 - Easy room with some fun elements Set looked great and was well decorated to fit the theme, it was immersive enough with multiple rooms to explore. The puzzles were more beginner oriented so it's an easier room. There were more padlocks than TEG's other rooms but there were still a lot of tech based triggers mixed in. One skill based challenge (similar to what you would play at a carnival) was super fun and I've yet to see it done elsewhere even after 150+ rooms. Bright flashlights were provided which were very helpful. The two staff members I interacted with were incredibly friendly and helpful. The only downside is that TEG has public rooms, but you can try booking last minute or the earliest or latest time slots. I was told elsewhere that you can also try calling to request a private game during off-peak times but I personally haven't tried it at this location. I played this solo and finished with almost 15 min left. I would recommend 1-3 enthusiasts, it will be too easy with 4. My personal ranking of TEG's games from multiple locations starting with my favorite: 1. Cosmic Crisis 2. Ruins: Forbidden Treasure 3. Playground 4. Timeliner: Train Through Time 5. Prison Break 6. The Depths 7. Special Ops: Mysterious Market 8. Gold Rush 9. The Heist 10. Mission Mars

Rating: 3/5- Good for a small town room, but average/decent overall. The room was a mix of padlocks and tech based triggers. They did a good job with the lock mapping so that you knew which puzzle solved which lock. The set looked decent for a Mansion with multiple rooms to explore but the immersion and budget weren't particularly high, it's average quality for a Midwest room. Puzzles were OK, a couple felt like time wasters and the puzzle style seemed very old school, like from 2015. Some of the puzzles could be interpreted in multiple ways which unnecessarily added to the difficulty. I also wasn't a fan of the runbook style of play, there was way too much reading and too many pages to flip through, it's hard for more than one person to look at it at once. GM was friendly and helpful, though we probably should've asked for more (unlimited) hints. We played as a team of 2 but did not escape. I would recommend at least 3 as there are parallel puzzles to work on and you'll want someone to help manage the runbook too.

Rating 4.5/5 - My favorite at Countdown with a fantastic, climactic ending Here's why I loved this room: -That ending, WOW, one of them most exciting and unique experiences I've had in an escape room even after 150+ rooms -Puzzles were very fun and felt appropriate to the wild west setting -A lot of interesting and unique tech that was made to fit the theme, only a few padlocks mixed in -Set was immersive and looked great -Multiple areas/rooms to explore -A lot of cool reveals and fun interactions -Friendly and helpful GM -This an absolute must-play, we drove 3 hours to play at Countdown and this room (and Mansion) made the trip worth it. I'd recommend 4 players, my team of 5 completed it with 20 minutes left, I wish the room was longer. At least one person will need to climb stairs and crawl. My ranking of the rooms here I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Ghost Town - Rating: 4.5/5 2. Murder Mansion - Rating: 4/5 3. The Pirate Ship - Rating: 4/5 4. Prison Break - Rating: 3.5/5 5. Rating 4/5 - Beautiful, high tech room with well deserved praise Pros: -One particular room looked fantastic, I've yet to see someone do something like that before in an escape room, and they did it very well -Some cool reveals -Set looked great and well decorated from floor to ceiling -Great use of tech and lighting with minimal use of locks -Multiple rooms to explore -Fun puzzles and props -Interesting narrative and that's more than just escaping -Friendly and helpful GM Mixed feelings: -The maze puzzle was too long and since it can be completed by only 1-2 people, most of us were just standing around watching -There is a math puzzle that I’m not a fan of -Ending felt a bit anti-climactic after the prior cool reveals Cons: -No writing pad provided and many of the puzzles are easier if you take notes. The owners says they don't provide markers due to vandalism, but many other escape rooms provide inexpensive electronic Boogie Boards to solve that problem. Taking notes on your phone is not a good substitute for something to write with. I'd recommend 4-5 players. There are stairs and a crawling portion but not everyone will need to do them. Rating 3.5/5 - Fun, nostalgic trip through time periods Pros: -The set was nicely done, the time machine looked cool and the various props from each time period were appropriate -Good amount of tech with some padlocks mixed in -Cool use of LED lighting -I enjoyed the nostalgia with many pop culture references -Multiple rooms to explore -Friendly and helpful GM Mixed feelings: -I liked the concept/theme but the sets were not quite as elaborate or fantastical as many of their other rooms -There is a puzzle that may be very difficult if the team isn't familiar with historical music, our team didn't have a problem with it though Cons: -Not a fan of solving the same puzzle twice with increasing difficulty, the multiple paths made it annoying to solve as it involved trial & error -No writing pad provided and many of the puzzles are easier if you take notes. The owners says they don't provide markers due to vandalism, but many other escape rooms provide inexpensive electronic Boogie Boards to solve that problem. Taking notes on your phone is not a good substitute for something to write with. I'd recommend 3-4 players, though it's probably playable with 2 if you are experienced. There are two floors, so stairs are required. One person will need to crawl. My ranking of the rooms here I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Ghost Town - Rating: 4.5/5 2.
