Escape room
IRL
Great game by some absolutely great people. You can tell they really care about the atmosphere and the entire escape room experience. This is the only room with a live actor in the space that I’ve done where I feel it really elevated the experience. Puzzles were great to good and really had an absolute blast. Well worth the hour drive!
MurderCo: Pure Evil
Black Market Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
This review is for Murder Co. - Pure Evil Overall: More of an immersive experience than an escape room. So let me start off with the pros: - The immersive experience is very good and starts the moment you park. - The actors do a solid job and are very committed. - The 'extremes' they take are very cool. Be sure to wear clothes you are ok with getting dirty and be ready to be engaged with physically. - Giant space Now the cons: - Bad game design. There are a lot of locks and keys that don't require any thinking. Just trial and error. According to the owner, we only completed 40% and during that I'd say we only had to do two ACTUAL puzzles. One puzzle, (the owner claims) we took too much time on because we didn't communicate well, but that's because the puzzle doesn't actually require communication to solve it. Then for the worst part. We left an item that was in a previous room without the ability to get it, leaving us without any way to progress further. So we ended up spending our last fifteen minutes just standing around. I felt bad for the actress who had to stay in character as we just waited for our time to be up. - Rude owner. This seems to be a pretty common complaint. The owner is very defensive and not as great of an escape room creator as he thinks he is. There was a moment where I was restrained and was hit in the stomach with a bat (which I am all for, the physical aspect was one of my favorite bits) and I jerked my body instinctively which led to me breaking the harness. After we failed the owner accuses me of being too rough with his equipment and screwing up his room. He later apologizes for "being in character' after I explained to him the situation. I can see where he was coming from, but he's very unprofessional in the way he went about it. He also kept saying the puzzles were fifth grade level to make us feel worse about the experience? I actually agree that the puzzles are very simple, but they aren't if you don't have the necessary tools to solve them, then they're impossible. Based on the reviews I've read I am ready for an overly defensive retort by the owner. So, in conclusion, if you are an escape room enthusiast I would say stay far away. If you are here purely for an immersive horror experience then I can see how this would be right up your alley. Honestly, if they got a good game designer and an owner that had better social awareness skills this could be an excellent room.
