Art of the HeistAmaze EscapeEscape roomIRLAfter completing their first room in 2016 or so with my dad, I finally returned to Amaze Escape with my wife to tackle their second room, Art of the Heist. We have both done several dozen escape rooms and aren’t prima donnas but do appreciate theming, strong puzzle design and things we haven’t seen before. Honestly I wasn’t holding my breath heading in which was fortunate because I was blown away. This was SUCH a fun room with more creativity than I’d ever have expected from initial impressions. Those sentences may sound like damning with faint praise but sincerely I'd much rather have a somewhat standard lobby and entrance and then be amazed than have to discover that the room's budget went into exterior atmosphere rather than interior ingenuity. The puzzles were fun and made sense and there were no random letter locks with zero plausible reason to exist. It all worked so well and came to a finale which was one of the more thrilling in recent memory. Great, great time and a very high recommendation. Also! At the end the game master recommended other local rooms. Though I’ve been to every Boston room at this point this is still the top best way to gauge what kind of people are running a place. Contributing back to the wider ecosystem of escape rooms by guiding players to another great experience is a sign of a confident, mature and genuine person. This used to be a tiny thing I appreciated but has become larger and larger as I’ve seen the two different types of people. It is ok not to recommend - but it sure is a bonus to know someone cares about escape rooms as a community of designers and players, not just as their own little fiefdom.
