While not the most challenging room I’ve been in, the full immersion aspect is on point, and I had already left comments complementing Escape Room Pittsburghs aesthetic designs for Diamond Heist and Carnegie’s Millions. Subway Escape goes above and beyond from the well produced introduction video to a special effect that I haven’t seen in an escape room before, and that as a theatre tech absolutely love since I didn’t expect the effect and had to look around a bit to see the mechanism that did it. For some it’ll be like magic. In terms of puzzles, as mentioned, not the hardest to solve but enough to allow some non linear team work and parallel problem solving but some added difficulty keeping track of past things seen and what has and hasn’t been used. There were a couple glitches to the room that the game master noted, and who was attentively enough to recognize that we had triggered the solution to one but have us a nudge to find what didn’t open like it should have. Sounds like the company is always doing some internal review to keep the rooms working well. Can’t wait to be back in Pittsburgh and be able to try the last of their rooms!

Our family of four (Dad, Mom, sons (15,13) enjoyed our experience. We enjoyed their other game Tomb Explorer more. We would still come back and try their third game based on our experience with this one.

This room was pretty cool! Like others mentioned, the tech was pretty cool and immersive. The staff here were really awesome and let us play even though we were late because of traffic. :) The puzzles were not really my cup of tea, but I think it’s 100% worth a visit if you’re in the area!

The technology puzzles in the room far exceeded my expectations. There was a new twist that I never experienced before and that was really cool. This was tough for only 2 people, as some puzzles have to be done simultaneously, but we were close to escaping. My only 2 complaints are about the customer service and that no clock was available in the room. All communications for time updates are done via walkie talkie. With a room as high tech as this one, it’s a big oversight. They also weren’t clear as time was running out. Despite how much fun the room could have been, the employees were rude/unfriendly and definitely soured the experience,
The gameplay was different and intriguing.
The design of the room was superb.
Terrible. By far the worst of all the rooms I’ve done. We sat in the lobby for almost 30 minutes, and nobody was at the front desk. One employee walked past us and completely ignored us. They then went into an employee’s only where you could hear them all laughing and joking with each other. We were about to ask for a refund and leave, but were from out of town and really wanted to do the room after reading some of the reviews. Once in the room, we were getting clues for puzzles we already solved.

I had high hopes for this room but ended up with similar love/hate feelings as the last reviewer from 3 days ago. The room itself was great with a cool set and lots of tech. However, our experience was ruined by crappy radios and a seemingly inattentive game master. Hopefully our experience was an isolated issue, but it was in my top 5 most frustrating experiences out of ~100 rooms. I'll start with the pros: -Great set and theme, appropriately grungy with good immersion -One "wow" moment -No padlocks or keys, everything was electronically triggered and everything worked -Had good audio and lighting effects -Nice variety of puzzles requiring team work and communication Cons: There are no major cons with the room itself, our issue was with communication and the game master. If it wasn't for that, I would probably rate this room a 👍 Here is what made my experience frustrating: -A room in 2024 should not rely on 2-way radios for communication, especially one that's capable of so much tech. -The GM gave us hints for things we already solved which is a sign of inattentiveness. -The radio quality was terrible, it was probably the cheapest generic radio available. We couldn't understand half of what the GM was saying. At some point we apparently unknowingly changed the channel and got radio silence. No one warned us about the buttons, and either the button lockout wasn't activated or the radios don't have a lockout. Either way, that's bad. Then the GM never noticed us struggling to contact them after we were stuck for a while on a puzzle, which is another sign of inattentiveness. -Due to the radio issue and not getting any response, I had to leave the room to get help from a different GM. This is the first time I've ever had to leave a room to get help. This is in contrast to a past room where we had radio issues and the GM there noticed immediately and brought us a replacement. We played as a team of 4 (experienced and newbies) and struggled a bit, we did not get out in time, especially with issues mentioned earlier. I wouldn't want to play this as a couple as there is a lot to do simultaneously, so I'd recommend 4-6. The GM told us we would get nudges but we don't recall getting any until we specifically asked for help which was too late.

We have a love/hate with this room. It has a really awesome and memorable surprise component and is worth playing just for that! The puzzles were unique, some components didn’t work well and needed the game runner to come in which is always frustrating and our game runner wasn’t super attentive/timely and gave hints for puzzles we’d already solved. If it had a good game runner I think it could be a really fun room.

Subway Escape is one of the best escape rooms I have ever done. It’s not the hardest, so experts and beginners can both have fun. The room was one of the best designs I have ever seen, the game master, Dustin, was super cool and friendly too.
Puzzles were interesting and creative. Each puzzle fit the theme well and was fun to solve.
One of the best designed rooms I have ever played.
Super friendly game master, easy sign in, and super clean lobby & bathrooms

The game was super interesting and the puzzles were creative and different than any other room I have done
The story was fun and interesting, and was integrated all the way through the room.
Medium
The game wasn’t super difficult, but it was still fun and enjoyable.
High tech
95% of the room was high tech with the rest being putting the pieces you find into place or punching in a code.

My group had 7 people and had a lot of fun. A group of 4-8 is definitely ideal for this room.
Not scary
The room was well lit and none of the designs or puzzles seemed to be intended to scare anyone.

The game theme involved gangs but wasn’t violent or scary. A couple puzzles might be a little difficult for someone super small to reach.
No
All game pieces were in one piece and the high tech parts worked every time.
