De Bankroof [The Bank Robbery]

One of the most spectacular acts of resistance in the Netherlands during the war was the raid on the Nederlandsche Bank in Almelo, on Wednesday 15 November 1944, with a loot of more than 46 million guilders. A robbery that succeeded, but due to a combination of circumstances ended in a catastrophic failure. To rob the bank, the KP Almelo needed permission from the Allied Command in London. They received this on November 7, 1944. On the same evening, the KP members met at the home of butcher Eshuis in Wierden. There the plan was devised and discussed (for the first time).
