Catalepsia Extreme Escape [Extreme Escape Catalepy]

Okay, this is a bit of a difficult review for me to write, as I have to separate my own personal experience from what the game is doing. Catalepsia is billed as the world's smallest escape room, and it earns that title by putting you inside a coffin for the duration of your experience. Yep, a coffin. A real (modified for gaming) coffin.. The concept is genuinely novel, the puzzle design is thoughtful and surprisingly varied for the physical constraints, and the mechanical ingenuity of the communication puzzles between coffins is impressive. Be warned: this is an intensely claustrophobic experience by design, and the game is upfront about it. If you're susceptible, go in with eyes open. I don't consider myself extremely claustrophobic, but I had a moment in the game where I genuinely was feeling like abandoning simply because of the restrained space. If you're not claustrophobic, it's a unique and memorable experience unlike anything else in Barcelona.

8.5/10 Disclaimer: this game takes place in an actual coffin. Yes, you read the right. A real, human sized coffin. Those that are claustrophobic will have a difficult experience. I absolutely loved this game. Two players completely separated in two different coffins. You cannot see one another so communication is paramount. All game play is within the space of the coffin lying down on your back. The puzzles are not terribly difficult but the anxiety inducing confined space will make it challenging for some. My only complaint is this experience is a maximum of 45 minutes. We got out in almost 20. Just be prepared for a short wild enclosed ride.

This is a different experience from a regular escape room. It was quite amazing to be trapped in a literal way and the puzzles are quite creative given the limited space. The fear factor is limited though, i didn't had a lot of tension throughout the, otherwise, great experience.

Catalepsia by Horror Box was the sixteenth room of our escape room tour in Spain and offered a different experience, designed for just two players in a very tight space. Claustrophobic players should be cautious, as the setting might be uncomfortable for some. The puzzles were simple and effective but didn’t stand out much, and the overall experience felt quite short, we finished with 5 minutes to spare out of the 30 minute limit. While unique in concept, it may not leave a lasting impression for those looking for a more involved escape room. The host shared some interesting historical facts at the end about catalepsy in the 19th century and the unfortunate cases of people being buried alive. Recommended for players looking to try something different!
