Year 1260, Murcia, Spain. “I, Don Alfonso, by the grace of God King of Castile and León, order the arrest of all the knights of the order that bears my name. By sending this letter to the culprits, they are informed that they are under arrest for the following charges: · Appropriation of the gold of the crown. · Deception and fraud. · High treason to the king. Consequently, and by the powers that my office grants me, I demand that the accused be confined in the dungeons of my castle and sentenced to death. May God have them in his glory."
