Bitka Na Čegru [Battle Of Čegar]

May 31, 1809: on Čegar, a hill near Niš, the overwhelming Turkish force clashed with the rebellious Serbian army. The battle lasted all day. Stevan Sindjelić and his men were surrounded and separated from the rest of the Serbian army. Five times, Sindjelić's men bravely resisted the Turkish attacks, but in the sixth attack, hundreds of Turks began to invade the Serbian trench. The Turkish army stepped over the bodies of their fallen comrades, with each step they were closer to Sindjelić's position, the battle was fought hand-to-hand with bayonets and swords. Seeing that there is no way out, Sindjelić decides to retreat to the ammunition warehouse, determined to take a hundred more Turks with him to death. With his last words, he releases his comrades from the oath that they will fight until their last breath, 'SAVE YOURSELF, BROTHERS, WHO WILL AND CAN!' and shoots powder kegs. Thousands of Turkish and Serbian soldiers die in a huge explosion.
