It was 1966. And after two years and 70 episodes, The Munsters—a TV sitcom featuring a benign family of monsters which included Herman, his wife Lily, their son Eddie, Grandpa, and their niece Marilyn—was canceled. “America’s favorite family” packed up their coffins and steamer-trunks and left Hollywood forever. Or did they? Written into their contract was a special provision, one that even the movie studio had regrettably overlooked—“For as long as The Munsters can continue to entertain their audience, their home and property can never be touched.” Using their monster brilliance, The Munsters turned their home into a live-action game, whereby their adoring fans could play and share in all the Munster-family-fun, thus protecting their home forever. Their gothic Victorian home has stood at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, like a time-capsule, for over 50 years. But it does not stand quietly. Passersby hear noises and voices, but more often, laughter. Some are convinced that The Munsters are still playing the very game they created many years ago. You can help the Munsters by playing along with them. But be careful not to disturb the dust and cobwebs; Lily prides herself on her home’s appearance.
