48 escape rooms
The newest addition to Penguin Escape’s lineup is called The Red Ruby. For once, we’ve ended up in jail — but this time, we’re not the guilty ones. Unfortunately, the red ruby is missing, and the police haven’t spent any time looking for other suspects now that they’ve locked us up. Soon, we’ll be transferred to a high security prison, making any escape attempt impossible, so right now we have the best chance to break out and at the same time find both the real thieves and the red ruby in the process, in order to prove our innocence. When the room begins, you’re locked inside two separate cells at opposite ends of the police station and must cooperate to break out of them so you can start solving the crime. Communication is a key element when you’re locked in different rooms, and naturally you’ll need to use elements from each other’s cells to open the doors and get out. The puzzles are nicely varied, allowing different types of players to contribute, and there are also new twists on puzzles we’ve seen before. It wasn’t just the brain that got challenged — fine motor skills came into play as well. There is plenty to work on, especially once the cells are opened, giving everyone the chance to stay busy the whole time. We were four people in the room and were well entertained throughout. A good portion of the puzzles can be solved independently once you’re out, but several also require solid teamwork, which provides a fun challenge. The number of puzzles is the reason we chose to give it 4 nuts for difficulty, even though most of the puzzles themselves aren’t particularly complex. All in all, it’s a perfectly good room with strong entertainment value and great potential as a family friendly experience, since there are no scary elements involved.
