I had a chance to do 49 Boxes at RECON 24, and it was a beautiful, mysterious, exhilarating experience. This is something that you could do many times and have a vastly different experience every time. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and I would recommend this highly to anyone who likes good things!

a very magical and intimate experience. i’ve never played a game that you could tell it was the culmination of someone’s life’s work and that it was meticulous put together for you. the fact that this experience exists is a miracle, and i’m blessed to have experienced it.

I love this show! I liked the ambience more when it was in Hollywood but it was nice to have the opportunity to experience it again at ReconLA24. It’s such a unique and clever way of doing magic in an interactive performance where everyone in the audience gets to participate in some way.

I feel so lucky to have gotten to witness and participate in this experience. Michael Borys is such a gentleman and made us feel at ease even when we struggled to figure out a particular clue. Would love to do it again.

This is a huge, ambitious idea! A ballroom game that provides around 7 separate experiences that coalesce into one final moment. The magic incorporated into the puzzles is delightful. The experience can suffer with too many people working on something, leaving each person with little to do. Conceptually, it’s a masterpiece. In practice, it’s still a grand experience with a fun finale, but—despite efforts to abate this from the people running the experience—downtime and quarterbacking are huge issues that can leave one wishing for more presto change-os.

I played 49 Boxes at RECON 2024 Los Angeles and WOW what a beautiful, moving, and thoughtfully designed experience this was. The props are high quality antiques and the storytelling is rooted in true magic history. I’d love to do this again to see more of the artifacts and puzzle tracks, as there are many.
