Permanently Closed - For one afternoon only – Sunday 8 September – you can play a ‘Restoration Conspiracy’ at the Hospital of St Cross as part of the celebration of Winchester history: Heritage Open Days 2024. It’s 1659 and as rumours abound that the exiled Charles Stuart is seeking help from the French to reclaim the throne, the Brothers of St Cross are missing their ‘Master-in-exile’. In fact a few of them are tempted to a small act of defiance and are debating whether to hang a certain tapestry in The Brethren’s Hall. This may be a foolish gesture in front of the current Master – will he spot its hidden message? Could you?
