The Salem Witch Trials of 1692-1693 were a dark chapter in American history, marked by mass hysteria and widespread panic over alleged witchcraft. At the center of these events was the accusation of various individuals, mostly women, of practicing witchcraft. However, beneath the surface, these accusations often reflected deeper social, political, and economic tensions within the community. One significant factor behind the witchcraft accusations was marital affairs. Divorce was not yet a widely accepted practice during this time, and many women who were unhappy in their marriages sought other means of escape. Some were accused of witchcraft as a way for their husbands to rid themselves of an unsatisfactory spouse. In other cases, accusations of witchcraft were used to discredit and silence women who were seen as too independent or who posed a threat to their husbands’ control over family and property. Land ownership was another political issue that was closely tied to the Salem Witch Trials. Many of the accused were women who owned land and were seen as threats to the male-dominated power structure of the community. These women were often accused of witchcraft as a way to discredit them and seize their property. The land ownership of accused women became a source of conflict between families and individuals, as some sought to gain control over valuable land and resources.

One of my all time favorites! Creepy, traditional in a sense but also unique in a way I won’t spoil, and I love the surprises and ending!

Overall it was cool, but no puzzle led to another and we felt blank slated the whole time. Wasn’t as spooky as some others said it was. One of the puzzles was kinda broken so our gm had to come in and do it for us

Have you ever been to an escape room where you genuinely want to escape the room you're in? Like not in a fun puzzle way, but in like a get-me-the-heck-out-of-this-weird-place kind of way? Well, that was this room for me. This was the first room we did at Trap Door, and needless to say it was a horrible experience. Shockingly, we actually did return to give it another chance, and that experience was also horrible and weird but in a totally different way (read my review for The Day of the Dead room if you are curious). First of all, the room is extremely extremely dark and dimly lit. Like to the point where it was not even in a fun way where we had lanterns or something to add to the ambiance, no - like it was so dark and we used our phone flashlights for things that we shouldn't have needed to use them for. Second of all, the creepy music track they have playing with creepy laughter or something mixed in was EXTREMELY loud. Like there was no reason for it to be blasting to the point where it gave me a headache, and we had to shout over it to talk to one another, even when we were standing close together. Third, the storyline was not well put together - even though it had potential. And the puzzles themselves were not great, and extremely extremely worn down. Like over half of the puzzles were broken or falling apart - that does not make for a fun experience. One of the puzzles actually had us hung up for so long because we were scared of making a mess - I don't want to explain further to avoid spoilers - but it was absolutely not practical, and the only reason we realized they wanted us to make a big mess was because we saw remnants of the last peoples attempt under the table. Last but not least, the team here is not the best vibe - both times we have been here we have just had a weird experience on that front.
Bad - no flow, everything worn down.
Not immersive in a good way.
The team here is always off.

It had potential but fell flat.

It was hard because of the quality of the game, not necessarily the brain power.

Buckle up folks because this is about to be a rant! Our team of three had really high hopes going into this room because come on, witch hunt is an awesome theme! The running issue with Trap Door is that the themes are great, but the execution is very much not. Our main issues with this room really pertained to the illogical nature of the puzzles. Our team missed a crucial puzzle because (without spoiling anything), it would have caused a ~major~ mess to do. Turns out, they want you to make a mess. Not only that, but this room was really bare bones atmosphere-wise and what was there was incredibly worn down. This is usually a really big pain point for me honestly in escape rooms and often causes frustration. I think this room also feels really creepy but not in a tactical strategic way but in a ~someone is literally going to come murder us~ way. For context, this is coming from someone who has done more than a couple of escape rooms (quite a few of which would be labeled as truly scary). Our GM was also really odd as well. My final issue is the disjointed use of technology. To be honest, it kind of takes away from the game.
Very illogical puzzles.
I guess they achieved what they wanted by going for creepy.
GM was odd but nice I guess lol

The only thing I would do differently when it comes to this room is play with more people. It was just two of us and this room was honestly so creepy that i didn’t want to split up at all. So, with that, I would say it’s themed very well considering how eerie all the witch elements felt.
