The Legend of the Lost Temple is a classic temple exploration game … journey into the jungle, explore the ruins, take the jewel. That said, it ‘s a game that knows exactly what kind of story its telling and does so with confidence. It is not only the best room at this location, but also one of the top five in Northern Nevada. This is an excellent room for introducing new players to escape rooms. The immersion is among the strongest in Reno, with setting, sound design, and lighting working together to sell the lost temple theme. Additionally, the puzzles are layered and logical without being overwhelming, giving new players moments of discovery and competence without bottlenecks. If I were introducing someone to escape rooms for the first time, this would be one of two rooms in Reno I’d choose (the other being Witch Doctor at Deadline). It’s a room that understands how to create immersion, momentum, and joy without overcomplicating the experience. NOTES + The room(s) is small, but the set, immersion, and sound design are definite strengths. When you enter, you instinctively slow down and look around to appreciate your surroundings. +There’s a nice balance of locks and more high tech interactions, and though the puzzles skew easier, they are varied, layered, and logical, with multiple ways of inputting solutions. + The room is responsive to your actions, both through sound and lighting. The cues are thoughtfully used throughout the room to deepen the immersion and give feedback. +/- Written instructions sometimes spell out exactly what to do with certain objects. This will help newer players, but for experienced teams it slightly flattens moments of discovery. - The hint system could be improved. Right now, it’s a button that you push and a voice comes over the speaker, but a walkie talky or even speaking to a kindly temple guardian in the room would be a simple improvement. - Improvement could also be made to the way players are told how much time is remaining. Currently, a voice comes over the speaker every 15 minutes and says, “great job so far guys, you have 45 minutes left.” There are quite a few other options that would make it more in world… the passing of time could be marked by torches extinguishing, or the jungle growing louder, or the guardians, one by one, gradually awakening. The basic idea would be that as time is running out, the room is starting to feel more alive and dangerous. NOTES FOR ENTHUSIASTS: • We accidentally speed-ran this room. We are nowhere near the fastest team around, but despite stopping to regroup and share discoveries, we unintentionally set the record. • Experienced players will benefit from playing the room linearly and prolonging the experience. It’s also a room that an enthusiast could play solo.
