It’s prime summertime and you are itching to adventure and explore. You’re scrolling on a website for fun things to do in the summer when you come across a beautiful, rustic cabin in California that serves as an Airbnb. The post says, “If you want to know what it was like to live in the Old West, here's your chance. A historic cabin in Big Bear City, California is now accepting guests.” Intrigued, you click on the post to further investigate. “The history of the Gold Rush Cabin is a fun one. Pioneers originally built it during the Gold Rush of the 1800s. It is said that the man who built the cabin was a successful gold miner and passed away as a greedy old man. Locals called him Old Bill. Now, the log cabin stands as potentially the oldest wooden building in Southern California. The cabin itself has all the modern amenities you could need, from WiFi to a hot tub. It sleeps four and has two bedrooms and one bath. It's been renovated to include electricity, a gas heater, a wood-burning earth stove and running water among other things. However, even with all of these modern amenities, you will still have the authentic experience you've been searching for. The outside of the cabin really makes this spacious property an ideal getaway. It sits above a beautiful meadow at 7,000 feet. Jeffrey pine trees surround the cabin, but they don't take away from the view of the meadow that hasn't been touched in decades.” Loved it, booked it, and can’t wait to experience it. The moment you get out of the uber, something feels wrong. The cabin is not what it seemed on the internet. Instead of rustic and beautiful, it’s rickety and creepy. After doing some quick research, you realize there is more than one cabin in Southern California called the Gold Rush Cabin. The person who you booked the Airbnb with has officially ghosted you and left you to figure out the situation for yourselves. You stumble upon a local hermit who has lived in these woods for decades. He tells you that rumor has it, "Old Bill was a prospector who had several very rich claims but always lived in this ol' cabin. Townsfolk think that he's squirreled away all his gold in that cabin. If you and your buddies want to explore it to see if you can find that gold, go ahead but I am staying right here. Its been abandoned since he died. I think that Old Bill booby-trap the cabin and you'll be trapped inside forever. I don't know if you find his gold or will Bill get his final revenge." Exhausted from the travels and flustered from the cabin catfish, you and your crew decide to go inside the cabin to make the most of the situation. As you enter the cabin, the door closes and locks behind you. There is a letter written to a distant relative explaining how there is a hoard of gold hidden in the cabin and how there is a complex set of steps to complete before the gold can be found. It turns out the old man who built the cabin really was successful at gold mining; VERY successful. And VERY greedy. The cabin is booby-trapped to protect the gold from anyone who is not Old Man Wilbur. The words on the wall are painted in red: The alarms are set. The clock is ticking. Find the gold and escape before the time runs out or you’ll see just what Old Bill has in store for those who try to steal from him.
