Something’s Out There was good- nothing more, nothing less. It is a horror-ish (I’m a weenie and it was maybe a 4/10) room that succeeds in immersion but lacks follow through in puzzle density, story cohesion, and length. Our group of 4 finished in just over half the time. This is a good room for those topping their toes into horror. You have the security of no live actor (it is effective in creating the sense of not being alone) but the mild jump scares, scenery, and effects that many horror rooms have. The lowest point of this experience was our gm. We were rushed in and out and it was clear that they weren’t interested in being there.
Gameplay
This is a linear, experience driven room and thrives less in the puzzles (some are really fun, clever, and effective) but succeeds in immersion and ambiance. Overall, it felt short for what it was and the story sort of lost its bearings in the latter half. Our group of four finished in just over half the allotted time and weren’t fully sure of what the conclusion was trying to imply.
Atmosphere
Excellent. The first space “outdoors” is killer, it is immersive, spooky, and a good tone setter. The other spaces follow suit and the design keeps the immersion.
Customer service
Our game master rushed us in and out, didn’t offer any time to see if we had questions about the story or puzzles and literally walked out of the room before we had left the lobby. I think it was the most terse experience and onboarding I’ve had in an escape room.
Ideal number of players
3
3-4. This room is totally doable with 2 but probably is its most fun with more folks to enjoy the experience.
