The year is 1943, the place New York City. Everywhere you go the city is bursting with life and excitement but beneath the glitz and glamour there are dark powers at play. You have been hired by Police Chief Donovan of the NYPD to investigate the whereabouts of a missing person, detective Frank Costigan. What youβll find is anyoneβs guess.

Built to be hard and not fun, Private Eye has a basic story, design, and puzzle flow with no reveals, cool mechanics, or memorability (outside of the poor puzzle design). Used a couple clues to figure the puzzles out to find out we never would have solved them without. It's not intuitive in any way and the actual set nor story make up for it.

The room was okay. Itβs better to have more people since most of the puzzles were observational and non liner. The flow was kind of weird and a few stuff didnβt really make sense. Some of the puzzles were pretty unique though. I also thought the ending was cool.

This is the hardest room me and my group have ever done but we did get out!! I believe the game creators wanted to be able to say only X amount get out without clues because one particular puzzle on the wall I personally feel like made us ask for a hint as figuring it out alone wasnβt going to be possible. The ending to the game was EXTREMELY weird and as the game master is coming in, congratulating us for getting out, weβre all baffled and confused and still arguing about some of the game play we did.

Im giving thumbs up instead of thumbs down because maybe it was just us. But private eye felt impossible. We escaped at the last possible second with an added 2 minutes to our 60 because we were so close to the end. A lot of the puzzles made no sense to us, we spent an hour basically walking in circles. Towards the end we all were sitting on the floor just waiting for the hour to end because we had no idea where we were or what to solve. The puzzle flow was not clear, what to look for and what to solve from the puzzle was basically non existent. We had to ask for a lot of help from the GM through the whole game, which we felt ruined the point because we wanted to be able to solve on our own. I feel like if a room only has a 5-10% escape rate, maybe something is wrong.

This room was fun. Story was good and had good puzzles.

Decent room. My team and I liked the various puzzles, however the final part of the room was broken and we were unable to get the full effect of βescapingβ the room, so that was unfortunate.

I felt like this room just did not flow and none of the puzzles made sense or went with the story

I did this room with two of my best friends and it was quite challenging for just the three of us! Itβs a pretty small room but the puzzles take a lot of brain power. Itβs one of those rooms where you donβt get much so you really got to hone in on your detective skills!

Chronos has mostly-decent sets and less-than-passing games. The puzzles are the biggest downfall. They arenβt fun, and they very rarely make sense logically. When you do work through puzzles, the tech most likely wonβt work. Private Eye fils that description perfectly. Iβd skip this one.

βBecause, this time, the puzzles were HARD. But I'll circle back to that.β
