Alien EncounterGrand Haven Room EscapeEscape roomIRLThere were times it felt like an overwhelming amount of locks and scavenging for a 2 person team, but overall it was pretty fun, with a few really clever elements.
Arcade Challenge [prev. Retro Replay]The Great Escape Room - Grand RapidsEscape roomIRLLots of fun and a great theme. Fairly straightforward puzzles that came together nicely - fun for a two player team. A good combination of technology and more traditional puzzles. We had a great time and I would recommend this to new players and families.
Art AttackBond's Escape Room - ArlingtonEscape roomIRLThis was fun, though definitely lighter on the story and puzzling and heavier on the art experience. We knew this coming in and it was just what we were looking for for a fun vacation activity with our 7 year old.
Blackthorns BetrayalLocked-inEscape roomIRLThis room was really creative and used a certain element in bold, interactive ways we hadn’t seen before. Be aware that the game starts with all players handcuffed and blindfolded, but it’s done safely and doesn’t last long. Very fun and we’re still thinking and talking about it.
High Sea Adventure Of The Coconut CrewBreakout Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLWe had a lot of fun with this one. Great, enthusiastic game master and a fun little puzzle for us to do with our 7 year old where we didn't feel rushed and he could do a lot of the solving and opening. There were some clever things we hadn't seen before and the hinting was cute and helpful. A good choice if you're looking for a simple, family friendly game.
Library of Lost SecretsLocked-inEscape roomIRLGlad we got a chance to play this one - we enjoyed the library theme!
Meowy ChristmasCentral EscapesEscape roomIRLA pretty cute holiday experience and a great example of why I wish Morty had a "it was fine" rating. What it maybe lacked in polish, it made up for in novelty and family friendliness. There were a few minor technical and reset issues, but we were able to work around them. I will say, we were surprised by some of the technology and how well it functioned for a seasonal, novelty game like this. The puzzles that were on theme were fun, some of the others seemed a bit like filler. The ending was a little anticlimactic - we didn't know we'd won or what to do next. Overall we had a fun time and really appreciate games we can play with our 6 year old!
Moriarty's Gameroom: The Hunt is Afoot! The Great Escape Room - Grand RapidsEscape roomIRLWe picked this room especially for our almost-7-year-olds first “real” escape room experience and it was a good choice for that purpose. LOTS - and I mean lots! - of scavenging for clues and placing them in designated baskets had to be done before we could even think about solving a puzzle. There were only a few puzzles in the room, which we knew going in, but they definitely needed adults to solve and in my opinion relied a bit too heavily on prior knowledge. In-room game master isn’t my favorite usually, but was great in this instance since we were playing with a young kid and they were very friendly and only offered assistance when asked. I think seasoned escape room fans would be underwhelmed by this room, but it worked great for our purposes and our kiddo was so excited when we escaped in the nick of time!
Mortimer's MansionLakeshore Quest Escape RoomEscape roomIRLThis was a challenging, but very doable and satisfying experience. Clues were well thought out and connected and there was a good variety of puzzles. The rooms at Lakeshore Quest are really nicely maintained and the experience start to finish is a good one!
