Mountain Top Murders
The Great Escape Room - Grand Rapids
Escape room
IRL
We were in the mood for something fun and not too difficult and this room really fit the bill! It had a nice variety of puzzles and prop interactions, and everything seemed very solvable and fair. Some fun spookiness and jumps, but nothing over the top scary.

We played this room with our 7 year old and it was a lot of fun! Great effects, helpful and enthusiastic staff, and adventurous experience. The puzzles were more physical than puzzle-y, and quite a few required teamwork which was fun. We appreciated the unlimited clues since we were playing just for fun with a kiddo and wanted to keep things low pressure and moving along. We were glad we had our phones along to use as flashlights because the room was very dark and the provided lanterns, while cool, were pretty dim. Definitely looking forward to their other rooms and the new ones opening soon! Great experience :)

We loved it! All fun, no frustrating! We loved the physicality of the puzzles and the tech all worked great. A perfect puzzle to play with kids, but honestly I think anyone would enjoy it.

This was a challenging, but very doable and satisfying experience. Clues were well thought out and connected and there was a good variety of puzzles. The rooms at Lakeshore Quest are really nicely maintained and the experience start to finish is a good one!

Our first escape room experience! The setting and story weren't particularly special, but I kind of love this kind of mundane, decade-specific decor haha. It really felt like being in your aunt's attic. There were a few fun surprises and it really got our wheels turning about what escape rooms could be. A fun, easy-going room for 2 beginners.

Such a fun room! We loved the decor, the clever puzzles, the unexpected elements, and how well everything was kept up. Great first experience for my new-to-escape rooms girlfriend!
The Final Masterpiece

Played this one with a two friends and it kept us busy! Lots of puzzles and locks, but a good balance where we felt challenged but not overwhelmed. The ambiance of the Colby is beautiful and fun, with the themed decor throughout the entire building - lobby to game rooms to bathroom. You can tell a lot of love goes into this place and it feels special. Just be sure to let them know if you've rather not have unsolicited hints!

We had a lot of fun with this one. Great, enthusiastic game master and a fun little puzzle for us to do with our 7 year old where we didn't feel rushed and he could do a lot of the solving and opening. There were some clever things we hadn't seen before and the hinting was cute and helpful. A good choice if you're looking for a simple, family friendly game.

A fun and different experience! I really liked being able to combine the puzzling with some sightseeing and physical activity and appreciated the fact that it was untimed so we could really enjoy without rushing (we stopped for dinner midway through) I think the experience would have benefited from a better hint system - there was a scratch off answer card so you could confirm you were going to the right place next, but it was frustrating to still not know where that answer came from . They were happy to explain the puzzles that had stumped us when we returned to The Ruse at the end, but a system to give us a little nudge in the right direction during the game would have been helpful. I think we could have called if we really wanted to, but they had made it clear there was no gamemaster assigned to the outdoor game so we'd have to wait until someone was free to get back to us. Rather than inconvenience anyone we just scratched the answer. We are very familiar with downtown GR so the place descriptions and map generally clicked for us pretty quickly, but I wondered how someone less familiar would fare. All in all a good time, definitely got our steps in, just felt a little adrift at times.

A pretty cute holiday experience and a great example of why I wish Morty had a "it was fine" rating. What it maybe lacked in polish, it made up for in novelty and family friendliness. There were a few minor technical and reset issues, but we were able to work around them. I will say, we were surprised by some of the technology and how well it functioned for a seasonal, novelty game like this. The puzzles that were on theme were fun, some of the others seemed a bit like filler. The ending was a little anticlimactic - we didn't know we'd won or what to do next. Overall we had a fun time and really appreciate games we can play with our 6 year old!
