TerrifierHalloween Horror NightsHauntHaunted houseThis was my favorite house this year, which really surprised me because I’m not a massive fan of Terrifier. It was less scary than I thought it would be, but a lot more fun! Each scene was super distinct and memorable, and the attention to detail was immaculate! I always love some good gross-out horror when it’s done with a slightly comedic tone. All of the Arts also really sold their performances.
PoltergeistHalloween Horror NightsHauntHaunted houseI’m probably biased because I’m a huge fan of the film, but I thought they did a great job capturing all the iconic moments. This haunt stood out this year for being a little more wholesome and a lot less gross than the rest.
Big Top TerrorThe Queen Mary's Dark HarborHauntHaunted houseAnytime scary clown girls are involved, I’m in! I love the inclusion of legitimate classic funhouse elements, like the mirror maze and the ball pit!
The Weeknd: Nightmare TrilogyHalloween Horror NightsHauntHaunted houseThe first Weeknd house in 2022 was my first ever HHN house. It holds a very special place in my heart and when I heard there was going to be a sequel, I was excited yet skeptical. It was going to be nearly impossible for this to surpass the first, but I think it did just that! I only went through once and I still feel like I can remember every single scene because there was not a single moment that didn’t stand out in its own way! I think it was a little less scary than the original, but more diverse from room to room, which made it more entertaining. Normally I like some sense of consistency in a haunted house, but the charm of The Weeknd is that there is no cohesive of any kind to be found. It’s a trippy clusterfuck of increasingly insane ideas. You never expect what’s about to come next, and I absolutely adore it for that!
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Legacy of LeatherfaceHalloween Horror NightsHauntHaunted houseThis house is absolutely incredible and a great treat for fans of the franchise. It’s chock full of references and the immersion is immaculate. It’s also definitely one of the scariest houses of the year, but also has this charm that comes off as weirdly cute! So glad we got this house and Orlando didn’t!
A Quiet PlaceHalloween Horror NightsHauntHaunted houseThis is definitely the least scary house of a year, but my god are the animatronics amazing. If you’re a fan of animatronics like me, you’ll be blown away by how much effort Universal put into this one! There’s like a dozen massive moving mechanical monsters that are all going to be trashed at the end of the year. Universal has now set the bar so high for the production value of future events.
Dead Exposure: Death ValleyHalloween Horror NightsHauntHaunted houseThis house is absolutely incredible! Every room is fully lit, there is literally no darkness, and yet it has some of the best scares of HHN 2024. I was laughing and screaming the entire time, and I highly recommend it. Probably the most underrated house of the year.
Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin AmericaHalloween Horror NightsHauntHaunted houseThis year’s Monstruos was much better than last year’s! Each monster was extremely memorable and distinguishable from the others. This could have been one of my favorite houses this year if the competition wasn’t so strong.
The Chilling ChambersKnott’s Scary FarmHauntHaunted houseThis might be my favorite haunt of all time! It’s not at all cohesive, but that’s because it’s basically ten mini haunts! Every time I turned a corner, I had no idea what would come next. It never stoped surprisingly me, and my smile just got wider the further I went in. I kept thinking I was almost at the end, but the maze lasts like seven minutes! That’s crazy long for a theme park haunt!
