13th Basement
Exit Game OC - Anaheim
Escape room
IRL
13th Basement is an escape room for escape room fans. It manages to parody horror rooms yet still employing legitimately fun puzzles. The game uses everything you would think wouldn’t flow, and yet it flows great, which is simply an extremely impressive feat. The nods to horror movies are very fun and the nods to the escape room community at large are even better. This is a room that you should definitely play if you are in Anaheim, and one that should be a great example of how a game can be fun and inventive without being giant or millions of dollars.
40 Thieves
MindTrap Escape Room - Temecula
Escape room
IRL
This game was SO MUCH FUN. From beginning to end it flowed like butter, every puzzle was a mental challenge but without being frustrating, and the tech was perfectly calibrated to the solves. The decor was top tier, and every story beat from beginning to end felt fantastic. I really struggle to critique anything here - while it might not be as game-changing as some rooms, 40 Thieves is perfect as what it is.

A Knight to Escape
The Escape Effect
Escape room
IRL
Really well decorated room. Split start for like 90% of the time but the puzzles compliment this. A great experience overall, but it is pricier then the average room.
Armoire a Vendre [Wardrobe for Sale]
Escaparium Laval
Escape room
IRL
Wardrobe for Sale is a game you have to play to understand, as it falls in the realm of "if I described it, I'd sound crazy". The atmosphere is very well done, and there is one moment that is straight out of Disney world. But I think what actually shines more here is the puzzles and the story. The puzzles were a great parallel experience that all felt satisfying to solve and were well gated so as to not totally overwhelm the player. The story was extremely well done, while it won't hit for everyone I really appreciated the deeper storyline that we played an active role in faciliting. I shouldn't have to tell you by this point, but Wardrobe is a game you have to play!
At The Hop Ice Cream Shoppe
Dare 2 Escape
Escape room
IRL
At the Hop was a very cute and fun game which hid a lot of deceptively hard, multi-level puzzling. I feel like the incongruity between the light hearted themeing and the tough puzzles broke my brain just a bit. It also suffered from a lack of feedback at points that cause us to miss important triggers. There was also a point where we skipped a whole puzzle due to an "environmental clue" which felt - wrong This room had alot of good things going for it, but it wasn't my favorite at D2E.
Avatar Stalker Phase One
Project Avatar - Online
Escape room
Virtual
Project Avatar is a absolute blast. The setting and story were such a weird combo of serious and hilarious that worked surprisingly well. It is much more video game then escape room, and the puzzling is fairly light. Make sure to move fast and don't die, and you'll have a fantastic time!
Babysitter
Reed Between The Lines
Escape room
IRL
Reed is a great mom-and-pop place that was a welcome stop on our road trip. Babysitter was not a crazy room, but it was a solid, fun experience. All the puzzles were logical and built of exactly what you'd expect in a kids room. There were more then a few moments that activated the kid in us again, and each solve was satisfying. The decor was a little rough, but they are in the process of moving and updating it, which should be a welcome improvment. A great stop if you are in the area!
Back to Childhood
Clockwise Escape Room - Pleasanton
Escape room
IRL
Back to Childhood was a simple but really fun room that showed how fun puzzles and good flow can go a long way. The atmosphere was cute and clearly made with care, but didn’t blow us out of the water. The puzzles were all logical, well-clued, and utilized strong and simple tech to complement them. There were a few wonderful throwbacks, and one moment was unexpected but really felt like a “back to childhood” moment (and the tech worked flawlessly!) This isn’t a room you need to travel out of your way to play, but any local enthusiasts will enjoy your time here (especially as a duo!)
Baldwin Manor
Escape Artists Orlando
Escape room
IRL
Good puzzles and good atmosphere. Nothing mind-blowing but a very solid game overall. Had some unique special effects that I hadn't seen before. Could have definitely benifited from better lighting and a fresh cost of paint, but nothing game breaking. Worth the trip!
Battle Of Xu'Qua
EDscapade Games
Escape room
IRL
This game was unique in good and bad ways. Some puzzles were out of left field and really fun, but the set was hit or miss. An experience you won't forget - not sure if that's good or bad.
