Special Ops: Mysterious Market
The Escape Game
Escape room
IRL
Right up front, this company does not allow for private rooms unless you book all available capacity for the room. I was aware of this and decided to book anyway. I will never do that again. While not a terrible experience, it was certainly less than. The three strangers we played with did not add to the enjoyment but instead subtracted. It’s 2025. This should no longer be a problem. I loved the idea of the room itself. Nice puzzles that were not difficult but also not too easy. Had we been by ourselves, this would have been a 10/10 experience. The first half of the room was more mechanical with the second half very technical and innovative. Easily on of my top 10 rooms.

Very fun room. Plenty to do and everything was intuitive with plenty of guard rails. Very tech heavy and everything made sense both thematically and game progression-wise. I wouldn’t call it particularly challenging, but we all had smiles on our faces the entire time. Sometimes it’s okay to just have a moderately challenging fun time. I really appreciate the direction this company is going in with these last two room additions (Making the Cut and Forgotten Film).

Fun little room. We greatly appreciated that it was not just a room full of locks. Very interactive and techy. A bit on the easy side, but my kids (13 and 10) loved it as they got to fully participate and did a lot of it themselves. This room is a great step forward for this company. I am looking forward to a larger and more complex room building off of the experience the company gains from this one.

Fun but easier room. Liked the idea and the implementation. Too many mechanical locks that broke away a bit from the theme, but otherwise fun but very linear room.

Great idea and even a good implementation. It was neat and had tons of potential, it just wasn’t fun. We felt very isolated with the lack of GM interaction and lack of debrief (or even the acknowledgment that we escaped at the end). They did appear understaffed and fully booked, so I get it, but it did absolutely distract from the experience. That being said, the novelty and implementation was neat, but we all agreed, it just wasn’t that much fun. I get why people like it, it just wasn’t for us.

This room had a ton of potential and may be a great room for some. It was a little bit of a miss for us. First off, I LOVE that it was not a room full of pad locks. Very few mechanical elements. The set was very nice and very thematic as well. You can tell a lot of effort went into the set and the underlying tech. Where it fell flat for us was with some of the puzzles design elements. It is very linear and the puzzles were an at most 2 people at a time solve. We had a group of six and 3 or 4 of us were just standing around watching much of the time. I could have gotten past that, but there is a dexterity element that you can either do or not. There’s no figuring it out. No work around. You can do it or not. All momentum was lost while 5 people stood around while 1 person attempted the puzzle. Everyone got a shot at it, but still, 15 minutes of just standing around making no progress is not fun. Again, I’m sure most people will love this room, but for me, there just wasn’t enough meat on the bones to make it enjoyable for a group larger than 4.

Fun game. One very frustrating puzzle that can really only be done by one person, so for 10 minutes, it just wait and yell out suggestions every so often. We thought we weren’t doing to well when we squeaked out the win with less than 8 minutes to go. It turns out the GM said we were doing great so she added 4 more puzzles to the end. I LOVE that they can do this! Scalable difficulty as determined in game is an amazing idea that more should consider. Other than that one soloish puzzle, everything else was very manageable and there was a clear progression feel.

This was a fun experience. We did have some technical issues while in game, but the staff was quick to get them resolved. Very interactive.

It was okay. Not bad, but not great. Basically just standing in one spot spamming arm movements. The tech and the visuals were outstanding. Just not enough “game.” Would not recommend but glad I did it.

Fun room. It’s just one big room, but there’s enough puzzles to keep you busy for a bit. 4 people is the sweet spot I think. There’s a lot of standing around while 1 or 2 people solve the 2 big puzzles. All in all, it’s worth a play as long as the group is not too large.
