8-Bit Escape
Escape Room Herndon
Escape room

Cool room. Probably would be better if I was older and more nostalgic for the old video games/music/toys featured in the room. Still had a blast w/ friends.

This game was amazingly designed and themed, with a mix of physical, logic, and communication puzzles.

I enjoyed this game! I played with 1 other person and there was plenty for us both to work on, although I can’t imagine playing with any more that 4 or 5 people. 10 (the max for this room) would be far too many - both in terms of space and # of puzzles. The set design is consistent with the theme, although not necessarily on par with the sets of their other rooms. There are lots of cute props that authentically match the storyline (which they let you hold in your victory picture!). My team used two hints during this game. The first was for a puzzle that I think could be slightly tweaked to make it flow smoother and the other was for something we totally should have gotten. The classic “omg how did we not think of that” moment. With the sheer number of complicated (in a good way) puzzles in Aunt Edna’s, we were proud of only asking for help twice. Jack, our guide, was lovely and was happy to chat with us about the room afterwards - we love a good debrief! If you are deciding on which game to play at this location, I’d recommend this one over Quest for the Throne, but I liked Blind Tiger Speakeasy & Lucky Dice Diner better.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of some of the puzzles in this room but others I really liked. It may be just because this isn’t really the type of theme I’m drawn to, but I still enjoyed my experience.
Budapest Express
Escapology - Bethesda

My experience in this room was definitely better than my experience in the Mayday room, but it was still not great. My team and I (all very experienced at escape rooms) escaped with only a few mins left. There’s wayyyyyyy too much reading in this room. I am a slow reader and approach text in escape rooms with the idea that it will matter in some way. In a lot of cases at Escapology, it actually doesn’t matter. Or just one word/phrase on an entire page of info does. And we are expected to be able to pinpoint it. Stupid. This game also relies on you remembering what item you get from where; so if you play, stay organized and take notes on where you find things. A few labels could fix this, but I doubt they’ll change it. Also, the staff is not super friendly or helpful. I don’t think they necessarily want their customers to win.

Spectacular! One of my all time favorites. I’d recommend bringing a group of 4-6. It’s a very communication/teamwork based game.
Confinement
Red Door Escape Room - Gaithersburg

For only being open a week, some of the items in the room seemed rather worn. This was strange to me. It did not hinder my experience, though - I still had fun and we were able to solve the puzzles and escape. The staff all deemed this room as their hardest, but I think their Fair Game room is more of a challenge, and would rank this as more of an intermediate game. It’s definitely creepy/spooky, though, which makes it unique!

One of my favorite games I’ve played. It’s jam packed with unique and challenging puzzles, and I love that it’s a longer game than typical escape rooms.
Crime Scene
Escape This Frederick

If you want the chance to try and solve a murder mystery, you should play this game. It is more fun with the competition element, but you should definitely have this room on your wishlist.
Dark Carnival

My family of 4 had a fun time in this escape room. The set was cool and the puzzles were definitely enjoyable. It was creepy and challenging. Some of the props seemed worn and there were a couple broken items as well as a lock that wasn’t locked.
