Survive The Jungle
Xtreme Xcapes
Escape room
IRL
I’ve played several rooms at this location over the years and this is probably my favorite one. Xtreme’s rooms are typically quite lock heavy (which I don’t love), so I was anticipating an overwhelming amount of locks and ended up being pleasantly surprised that there weren’t too many despite the size of the room (largest one at this location). It’s challenging but also very fun and the two of us were able to escape (although 4 people would probably be a perfect amount). Also, newbies should probably avoid this room unless they have experienced escapers joining them.

Malfunctioning puzzles, logic leaps and a GM who didn’t closely monitor our progress in order to properly guide us whenever hints were requested. Scenic decor was nice, otherwise, wouldn’t recommend.

I’ve loved every Exit Strategy room I’ve played until Subject Zero. I honestly found this room to be more stressful than fun. Very lock heavy, so basically an hour spent searching for 3 and 4 digit number codes. To be fair, I played this room with only one other person so it was extremely challenging, and we’re both experienced escapers. Would definitely recommend a larger team with previous escape room experience for this room.
Vengeance
Candid Escapes

I was really excited to play this room because I have previously played 3 other rooms at Candid Escapes and really enjoyed them. But I’m sad to say that Vengeance was rather lackluster and disappointing. It kind of felt thrown together… the actual construction of the room felt more like a temporary pop-up escape room that can be built and broken down very quickly. And as far as the puzzles went, it was very lock heavy, which I personally hate. I just don’t find it that fun to spend an hour figuring out a tedious amount of solutions for all of the number locks and word locks scattered everywhere. At least we successfully escaped. I’d recommend trying out Candid’s other offerings before Vengeance.

Escape It Houston - East

The best thing about this room is the beautiful scenic decor. It’s stunning. There were also a couple of enjoyable puzzles. Otherwise, I found this room to be frustrating because there was zero organic flow to the game. You are only allowed 3 hints, which I consider terrible customer service because people are spending their hard earned money for a fun experience. And of course escape rooms should be challenging but if people are stuck and have already used up their 3 hints, are they honestly supposed to just wander around aimlessly for the remainder of the game?? A couple of the puzzles were riddle-based and the answer was only available by using 1 of your precious 3 hints. People should not be expected to be good at solving riddles and the solution should be located somewhere in the room. A lot of puzzles/clues were handwritten and were faded and very hard to read. One puzzle did absolutely nothing once solved. And the strangest thing of all was that it seemed to just abruptly end once we were 30 minutes in and I placed some items in a certain spot and there was an announcement that we had successfully won the game. Again, no organic flow, just a seemingly random series of puzzles peppered with red herrings. Such a shame that it was so beautifully decorated because the puzzles definitely did not match that level of quality.

Despite the fact that this room almost gave me a nervous breakdown towards the end, I really enjoyed it. First of all, the scenic and decor was super high tech and top notch. My brother and I (both experienced escapers) brought along our stepsister and her husband, who are both still relatively new to escape rooms, and they were completely blown away by the immersive, high quality decor and tech. The puzzles were very fun and creative for the most part, but this was also a very challenging room (the last two puzzles are what nearly ended me). The four of us were joined by another couple we didn’t know and I’m happy to say that we all quickly bonded and every single one of us contributed toward our victory with only 1 SECOND remaining!!!!! I highly recommend this room, but definitely consider the experience levels and skill sets of your team members, as this is a rather challenging room.

Really enjoyed this room! My brother and I had the pleasure of being grouped together with some other players who all happened to be escape room newbies, but during the game, they observed us closely, caught on quickly, started contributing to solving puzzles and we ended up successfully escaping! As for the room, it was beautifully decorated and the puzzles were well thought out and fun. Also, I loved how the room as a whole really played with levels within the space. And that’s all I will say about that! I definitely would recommend this room! I personally don’t think it’s too difficult where a group of escape room first timers wouldn’t be able to escape. But, per usual, I would suggest a group with at least two experienced escapers and preferably a variety of skill sets and great communication skills.

Just thinking about this room infuriates me. My brother and I (both experienced escape roomers) failed this room but I don’t even like to consider it a loss because it was pretty much unsolvable. Multiple puzzles malfunctioned and requires our GM to physically come into the room to fix them. One of those puzzles wouldn’t work after we had input the correct code several times and then made us rethink everything and try a bunch of incorrect codes, thus wasting our time. The worst part was towards the end when we had to try and extract a key from a device on the wall using a magnet. The magnet was NOT strong enough!! After we lost and our GM came in, I brought up that stupid magnet and she said, “yeah…. I’ve spoken to the owners multiple times about it not being strong enough but they never do anything about it.” Ummm…. WHAT?!?!?!?! Charging people to play an unplayable room is the worst escape room offense I can think of. Don’t even waste your time and money on this ridiculous room.

This room blew me away! Beautifully decorated, well designed puzzles that made sense within the world you’re in. Just gorgeous. So well done. I can’t say enough positive things about this hidden gem of an escape room! And the owners are fantastic!

Did the R- rated version and it was stressful, heart pounding fun!! The couple that owns this place knows what they are doing and are clearly passionate about escape rooms and haunts in general. Creepy decor, fun puzzles and great time to be had by all!
