Escape Hour’s Mayan Ruins was okay. Run of the mill. Not super great, some cool stuff, some re-used puzzles from some of their other rooms. It’s a meh experience overall.

This room walks the line between dislike and like but it’s clear a lot of effort went into the set so I put ‘liked’. This company is great at atmosphere, clearly putting a lot of money into the set and ambience. This room felt tiring. Here’s a guidebook with a list of puzzles to complete along with instructions on how to do each one. I felt like my partner and I were just ticking off boxes. I would love for this company to get someone in to help them come up with innovative puzzles that are intuitive rather than having to explain every puzzle in their manual because the effort wasn’t put in. The excitement was manufactured by having dim lighting and overly loud music and a game master who would chime in frequently regarding the time left. Meh, just meh.

The one who greeted us, Mya, was super fun and sweet. We were happy to work with her. But our GM was switched once we entered and the new GM was very rude. Her clues were said in a condescending tone and made us feel dumb. The room was well put together and the puzzles were challenging but there’s no need to act rudely toward customers who take longer than you to solve them.

Super fun! We have done all of this companies rooms so we were pretty familiar with how their games flow. I love how different all of their rooms look the owner builds them himself and he does an amazing job!! The game was pretty linear and easy to follow. The room was large and any side rooms were small. We wish there was a more climactic ending like other ones they have but it was still fun to finish! Caleb, our game master was great at immersing us and giving helpful nudges without giving us answers. All in all definitely worth the play!

Our game host Caleb was such a great addition to this experience, he brought the energy and kept the story going. This was a very solid room with interesting puzzles.

My sister gifted me this experience as a Christmas present, this being our first opportunity to fit our respective busy schedules. I had never done an in-person/live escape room before, but had a wonderful precious experience with a virtual room in the past. Curse of the Mayan Ruins was, in my estimation, the first of what will end up becoming a multitude of experiences in our future! It was quite immersive; fun and challenging without escalating to frustration; and innovative in its room design (from my novice expectations at least)! We had a blast, in no small part thanks to our profoundly delightful GM, Lexi, who was playful, friendly, adaptive, intelligent, and kind from the onset of welcoming and prepping us for the experience; guiding our explorations of the temple; and integral to our eventual victorious extraction and debriefing! I for one would very highly recommend her when booking any expedition!

Such a great experience… we loved the room, the unique and creative puzzles and our absolutely amazing GM, Hailey. She elevated this experience even more and we left with giant smiles and talked about this room for days after
