If you are looking for a vampire-themed escape room with some clever tech, "Bitten" at Escape Room Rocklin is worth checking out. Just be aware that the layout might feel a little different than what the designers originally intended. The vibe of the room is okay. It definitely fits the vampire theme, and the set dressing matches the story they are trying to tell. That said, it isn't the most immersive room I've ever been in. It sets the mood well enough, but don't expect to be completely transported. Puzzles is where "Bitten" really stands out. There is a lot of tech in this room, which I always appreciate because it makes the game feel smoother and more magical than just unlocking padlock after padlock. The puzzles are creative, and I encountered several that I honestly haven't seen anywhere else, which is rare these days. However, a word of warning: you need a really keen eye. If you aren't the type to examine every little detail, you are going to hit some walls. There were moments where the solution was hiding right in front of us, and we just completely missed it. Also, without spoiling anything, there is one puzzle that requires a bit of outside knowledge. You need to know what happens when you mix two specific things together to get a result. If you don't have that random fact in your back pocket, you will probably need a hint. The room design was one thing that held the experience back for me. From what I understand, the game was originally designed to have one room that led into another room, creating a sense of progression and discovery. Unfortunately, something happened to the game that required them to change it, so now it's just one big room combining both spaces. Honestly, I think the original concept was better. Having it all as one big room actually made the game more confusing for me. Instead of the excitement of "unlocking" the next area, we were just sort of wandering around a large space trying to figure out where to focus. The flow felt a bit scattered. I hope they are able to restore that original mechanic someday, because I think it would tighten up the experience a lot. Stick to a team of 4 max. We had 5 people, and it felt crowded. There are plenty of puzzles to go around, but with 5, someone is usually just standing around watching. "Bitten" has some genuinely unique puzzles and cool tech that make it a fun hour. The game master was fantastic and really added to the experience. Just go in knowing the layout is a little different than planned, and bring your sharpest-eyed friends.
