Theme and ambiance: 5/5. Nails the creepy old 19th century building because, well, it's in a creepy old 19th century building. The background audio and creaking wood floors all added to the experience.
But...
Puzzles: 1/5. This room badly needs a puzzle update. None of the clues or puzzles were very original or interesting, and were really just a mishmash of overused room concepts like blacklights (used a LOT), weird symbols that correspond to letters, and playing card math.
Many of the clues were overly ambiguous and required a pretty big mental leap to get there. Some clues were reused, but the ones chosen were random and not at all indicated how we were supposed to put them together. All of the props are worn down, and either currently broken or clearly fixed multiple times. Also, many of the puzzle triggers could trigger multiple times, leading to the same sound and light sequence firing off over and over as we moved things on old puzzles.
All that turned what could have been one of my favorite rooms into a frustrating hour where we didn't escape. I suppose it would be good as a first room, but even moderately experienced escapees will likely find the room lacking.
