It’s 1998, and a seemingly innocent looking Record Shop is actually a front for a spy network determined to destabilise the British government. While the owner is out and the shop remains empty, the opportunity presents itself to upset their plans…. Your mission is to get in, get the documents that are hidden cleverly inside, and then get out before the owner returns. Oh, and don’t get too distracted by the awesome 90’s soundtrack too! Please note, this is a difficult, entry level game aimed at players who haven’t played lots of escape rooms before. For more experienced players, we would recommend ‘The Voices We Hear’

I had no idea how little I knew about 90s music until we played this room! I think a “music person” would get a lot more fun out of the set dressing, soundtrack, etc; my brother and I often felt a bit intimidated/alienated by how little we recognized the albums, lyrics, etc that formed part of the puzzles. But, in the end all the needed information *was* in the room. There was lots to do so our team of two was busy the whole time, though this might be our fastest finish. It’s not an immersive mega experience but it was a fun set of puzzles with some neat creative moments.
The props overall were fun and thematic but not necessarily “immersive”, and several were fairly worn out.
The staff wasn’t super theatrical but our GM was very friendly, enthusiastic, and showed good restraint with hints.

With two, we were often each staring at something in confusion that would have benefited from someone to talk it out with.

One non-essential piece from a puzzle wasn’t there (but we solved fine without it)

Quite average. The theme was quite unique but there isn’t really an element of pressure or threat. Puzzles were unique but nothing mind blowing. It’s also marked as the most difficult room at the Croydon branch but it was one of the fastest times I’ve ever taken to escape.

“It’s a challenging room, but it’s nothing insurmountable and instead, incredibly satisfying“
