The Second Chapter in the Paradox Cycle. As you enter, you know something is not right here– the building is aging unnaturally, and the staff hides secrets you cannot discern. But what truth will you uncover? Disowned children who seek their birthright? A soul that cries out from the hell it was trapped in? A Great War perpetuated by a creature of supernatural origin? Or perhaps an experimental breakthrough that perverts the nature of medicine itself. Only you can say for sure: the choices made in 1897 will continue into 1917, and the story and characters you interact with inside these walls is completely dependent on what came before. A collision of immersive theatre and escape room, Madness, 1917 will change drastically one each play through. But one thing is guaranteed: what happens inside the decaying halls of Hollow Grove will defy even your wildest expectations.

Such a cool experience. The narrative (cannot wait to try the other story outcomes), the immersion, the actors -- just overwhelming amazing. If you are a story-first type of player, this is your escape room. The immersion and the actors were outstanding! Cannot praise the room and staff enough. When you walk into Doors of Diversion, your game has begun (before you even get to your room) Complete this room after Hersey. Your outcome there will set the stage for the narrative you receive here. So the narrative is wonderful, the puzzles had a great flow but there was one in particular that confounded us a bit (broke the flow and narratively didn't really have the same connection to the other elements we were learning and solving) However, it did not deter us loving the room and wanting to come back to play it again when we are back in the area. Tidbits: Wonder actors. Time permitting, chat after. Truly wonderful people Parking is easy. The location is a small "mall". Just enter into the door towards the center and follow the signs. There were 6 experienced players in our group and we had a lot of fun. I personally enjoyed this room better than 1897 but the 1897 room was also good. I believe most of the others in my group liked the other room more. The character actors in both rooms were amazing and there was a lot of acting in this room. Probably the most of any room we have ever done. Set designs and story lines were very good. Puzzles were good but these rooms are more about the overall experience and interaction with the character actors than it is about the quantity of puzzles. I love that you can replay the rooms and have multiple different story arcs. As several others have mentioned, my only two complaints would be the noise coming from other rooms kills the vibe of the room and finding the door to the place was very difficult. Give yourself a few extra minutes to locate the proper entrance. I would love to see them fix both these issues.

Good room and the actors were fantastic. The repeatability of the space is a neat concept. Would be more worthwhile if I were more local.

Following the completion of Heresy and a short break, we were brought back into the story world by our entertaining bartender and continued our version of the narrative. It’s hard to say exactly what an effect our decisions from the previous experience had on this one, as we only played through them once so but I did enjoy the beginning of this one much more. There was more of a story and build to a climax as well in this experience vs Heresy. Some of the acting scenes in the middle of the experience seemed a little long and were less interesting than the puzzles we were working on, but some of this could have been the opening-weekend awkwardness with the actors still getting used to their roles. They weren’t quite as grounded enough in their roles yet to draw the player in to their story. There was a great climatic scene where a critical decision had to be made quickly, but first an activity had to be completed and that added some excitement. The ending we got was okay, but felt a little unsupported by what had come before it. Much of this might be ironed out as the performers gain more experience, but this is where it was at the time of my play-through. Overall, definitely better than your average escape room experience and a unique experience overall.

Gameplay

Puzzles and story were more intertwined in this experience than in Heresy. Lot of coordination between the players to solve puzzles. One puzzle involved a ball that got stuck, but GM brought a backup and we were able to complete. Puzzles were fun and logical. I did feel at times that I was mostly being lead where to go by the actors instead of being able to explore, but this was by story design.

Atmosphere

Set was professional and immersive. Some nice sound and lighting design to heighten theatrics.

Customer service

Bartender continued to entertain while we waited for room to be ready. Actress who served as our GM when needed was attentive.

A replayable, choose your own adventure escape room with live actors. This concept is great, but unfortunately Madness didn’t quite live up to my expectations after Heresy. It’s still quite a fun time, but I preferred the theming and atmosphere of Heresy. 4/5

Insane experience. Doors of Divergence just takes it to a whole new level of immersion. It is hard to describe. You’re basically inside a movie. The actors are top notch and really put their hearts into it. The story, from start to finish, including the bar, is just impeccable. The combination of this room and Heresy 1897 dethroned The Exit Games two games as our groups favorite escape rooms ever played (we have played over 100 together, collectively hundreds). Also, the clues were great. I don’t remember a single number lock. No time drains etc. Very unique clues and excellent use of environment/room props. You can spend anywhere from 1.5-2 hours in each room experience, and we really loved every second of it. Again, we have played top TERPECA and Morty rated games all over the US, and Doors of Divergence was just special. They pushed the limits on what an escape room is. Unfortunately they are temporarily closing, but we will be eagerly awaiting their opening so we can close out the story with chapter 3.
