In the heart of Escaparium Laval's massive complex nestles a mysterious monument classified as a World Heritage Site, forgotten for several centuries: an ancient cathedral. Escaparium was built around this characterful building that once served as a sanctuary for a now extinct cult. Archaeological excavations and restoration of the monument have been underway for several years now. This allowed us to make major discoveries on the history of the cathedral and on a certain cult that we name, "The Order". Artifacts of rituals dating back centuries have been found and are currently being investigated. Come take the guided tour through the myths and legends of a forgotten past. A trip which you will never forget. (this is an escape game)!

The perfect blend of spooky meets adventure. It was unbelievable. I ADORED this game so SO much. I honestly was not expecting to be so blown away. The theatre moments were so folded into the experience but never at the expense of the game play. Solid puzzle design and truly breathtaking set design. I felt completely pulled into a new world. I also feel like they have allowed the players to explore and enjoy every element of the set which was amazing. All of the surprises just left my jaw on the floor and the immersion was next level. I couldn’t recommend this game enough, I’ll be thinking about this game for years.

Gameplay

The perfect blend of Adventure and Spooky. I thought it was really well pitched, without going too far into the horror genre. I had SO much fun, I was constantly impressed and in awe.

Atmosphere

This space was a marvel. It took my breath away at every reveal. I don’t think I have ever been so impressed and blown away with a design before. The ‘theatre’ moments within the story are so perfectly placed without halting the flow of the game.

Customer service

As always the hosts at the venue are always great.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

Yes! I honestly think one of the most incredibly immersive spaces I have ever been in.

Story

I think the story was ever so slightly too complicated. I think it could have done with being paired back ever so slightly to make it easier to follow the objective.

Difficulty

Hard

There was a really satisfying amount of puzzles to get through. I felt like there were a few that were harder to get through but I enjoyed the challenge.

I’m not going like or dislike this escape room since I didn’t finish it, and I’m sure it’s very well made like the other rooms we did at Escaparium. But this was way too scary for me. I had to leave after a room and a half. I’ll gladly put the blame on us for not looking into it more before we booked the experience. It says 3/4 scary on their website. But not much else. There was no list of potential triggers or anything. But I definitely could and should have asked before we started. I normally do, especially when I think something might be scary, but my Fiance dropped the ball on telling me about this one when he planned this trip. 🙄 I did ask about the other rooms we’re doing tomorrow and the guy at the front desk was more than happy to list off any triggers in them for me. But Escaparium did not seem to be well prepared for a situation like this. Most escape rooms I’ve done will have announcements like: you’re never locked in, you’re free to leave at any time. The door’s unlocked and you can just go back to the lobby. But Escaparium does staggered room starts for some rooms, and will turn lights off and such to discourage you from going back after certain points in the story. So you can’t very easily just go back to the previous rooms or leave without a team member. The Hallways of the warehouse are also extremely dark and narrow and don’t have much signage and pretty much require a team member to direct you. When my Fiancé asked if I could leave it took a few minutes for a team member to let me out. They then had me sit in the opening room of the experience for another few minutes since she had some parts of the room to trigger for my friends before she had a moment to walk me back. She was absolutely lovely and understanding and this was not on her. But Escaparium management needs easier, quicker and better protocols in the event that someone wants to leave. I saw many children doing rooms at Escaparium and I’d have a hard time believing this situation isn’t common enough that they should be able to deal with it more effectively by now. Especially in their one room that is labeled as their scariest. This wasn’t the only accessibility issue we had. My friend was struggling to hear and asked if there was any way to turn the background music down since it was quite loud and they just didn’t have the capability to do that. I’m sure that for most people, especially horror enjoyers, this would be a great room. My fiancé seemed to like it. But I’d seriously reconsider the room and potentially Escaparium if you have any special needs or medical conditions.

Production quality was amazing, as is typical with Escaparium. I feel like I would have appreciated it more if I hadn't just come from a trip around Netherlands/Belgium, where many of the rooms had a similar theme to them. But objectively, it was a well done room. Most of the puzzles were different and purposeful, the story was well maintained throughout the game, but our objective got a little lost as we played.

We had a slow start due to some glitchy tech, but then everything went super smoothly to the end. There were many cool effects that fit perfectly into the story, and didn’t feel like gimmicks. The set was so beautiful and detailed. The puzzles were on theme, with some good collaborative puzzles as well. And so many small details that really pushed this one from good to great for me.

In terms of sheer spectacle, cinematic immersion, and intensity, this room is out of this world (I actually think it has a slight edge on Magnifico, which is also wonderful, but somewhat weaker on the puzzle side). My sense of Escaparium, having done several rooms, is that puzzles take a bit of a back seat to production, but when the production is this amazing, who’s really complaining?

Simply excellent. GREAT story - I was immmersed the whole time. Great use of space. Loved the 4th wall break to view the workshop. All details were thought of (though some objects you need to see from a distance could be gently backlit to help us older players with weaker eyesight out?)

The set is obviously the star of the show, and it's quite impressive. Puzzles fit into the world pretty well, and the opening sequence quickly draws players into the story in a memorable fashion while establishing the stakes. Having said that, I had a big problem with the game's audio. Like in Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen, I frequently had a hard time clearly making out what the off-set characters were saying, which made it harder to follow the plot and broke me out of immersion. Also, the set, while astonishing, didn't quite click in a way I can't put my finger on. Maybe it was in a weird space between being a very good imitation of a cathedral while still clearly being an imitation of a cathedral - it was good enough to mostly make me suspend disbelief, but not quite good enough to finish the job.
