Think you have what it takes to save Alice from the Queen of Hearts? Tumble down the rabbit hole as CluedUpp is bringing a brand new outdoor Alice in Wonderland experience for one day only on various dates across the United States. Following the triumph of “Witchcraft & Wizardry” and “Crimescene Investigator” CluedUpp are back with a new outdoor adventure that combines Lewis Carroll’s much-loved story with gaming and escape-room style challenges in a magical new interpretation. With a cast of virtual characters straight out of your favorite storybook, save Alice from the Queen Of Hearts in this unique outdoor experience for an unforgettable day of surprises and memorable moments. Hundreds of players will gather on the streets to receive curious clues via their phones as they scramble across their chosen location to solve puzzles and complete challenges against the clock (and other teams). Tref Griffiths, founder of CluedUpp Games, said: “Our events are all about getting family and friends outside and playing games together in a completely unique way. Alice in Wonderland gave us the perfect opportunity to create a brand new themed experience that we hope people will love. Get ready for some topsy turvy fun!”

WARNING: This is NOT an escape room. The title misleads you. This is actually a scavenger hunt. Hours of walking so dress and prep accordingly. Still fun to play as a group or even if you just need an excuse to roam about the neighborhood. It’s played 100% on the app so you’ll need to keep your phones charged. Most puzzles/riddles you come across are real easy but play close attention, the clue that you find will come in handy later for the tougher ones. Our group dressed within the theme and turned out others got the memo. Really fun to see everyone’s interpretation of Alice in Wonderland.

Like everyone said, it’s not an escape room. Regardless, it could be a very fun activity for children. But the “challenges” feel like Mario Party mini games. It feels like Cluedupp made a formula that makes money and won’t change it. One of the puzzles straight up was wrong and everyone I have talked to about it was also confused and frustrated about it. This was basically a geo-location based outdoor app experience. Well designed app. Would not do again.

This is not an escape room, nor is it really even an escape experience. There are maybe 2 actual puzzles that are really simple, then there are loads of cheap mobile games. It’s more a scavenger hunt than an escape room. At their “50% discount” of $40 per team, it still feels like a ripoff. Seeing so many people playing was cool, but the game itself was a joke. The marketing makes it look like you’ll interface with CluedUpp staff, but this is 100% on your phone and on your own.

It was fun to see others dressed up in Alice in Wonderland gear, but other than that was a bust. It is good for getting your steps in (we walked around Phoenix for a couple of hours) but the game part of it is all on your phone. I don’t understand why it had to be on a certain date, when realistically you could do it anytime. I would not recommend this unless you are looking for a different way to get exercise.

Loved the idea of this. However, it turned out to be a flop for me. This was entirely virtual. I felt like I just did laps downtown Phoenix. The highlight of my day was getting my steps in and spending time with friends.
