Overall a well-presented, evocative experience with some fun puzzles. Loved the presentation of the Wild West town that felt like a larger space than it was. Lots to explore with some fun reveal moments during play. Recommended!

Gameplay

Overall a charming and enjoyable presentation with a fun story, well-integrated theme, and clean, fair puzzles. Loved it.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere was very strong, and was very well presented. I was particularly impressed at the design evoking a whole Wild West town in a relatively small space and STILL having multiple “new area” reveals, one at the start and one near the end. The puzzles felt thematic as well. I’d say the thematic presentation is the primary selling point for this room, delivering a memorable immersive experience.

Customer service

Friendly staff, no notes.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

The puzzles were fairly straightforward but the thematic presentation elevated it. I particularly liked one puzzle that used a series of zeotropes, which I hadn’t seen before - that was a really fun puzzle component I felt.

Story

The story was fairly well developed as escape room goes. Wasn’t very original or surprising but well represented and consisted of more than just the frame story for the room itself, which is always nice. Comments about it being a little anticlimactic are fair, but it’s mainly because the bar was set high by the introduction and presentation of the main gameplay - it does have a kind of finale, and it’s effective for what it is.

Difficulty

Medium

We got through in less than a half hour with no hints, so I’d say this room is on the easy-to-medium side. This would be a good starter room for new escape room players with one or two experienced players to guide them or maybe a second room for novice players. It’s still worth playing for experienced players for the theme and immersion, though - it’s a charming and fun room.

Scary

Not scary

The game was not scary but as a Wild West theme, there are some (not very realistic) gunshot effects which might be a problem if someone is skittish about that. There are two parts where the whole team end up in a small space which might be uncomfortable for people with claustrophobia.

Physically active

Somewhat

There was one puzzle that required putting your arms through holes that might be difficult for some people with arm mobility issues or particularly short arms. Most elements were not at all physically active though.

Accessibility

There was one puzzle that relied on color identification. People in wheelchairs might have trouble navigating some of the areas because there are some tight spaces (but not particularly worse than most escape rooms I have seen).

Easy to find location

Yes

It’s right on a main thoroughfare, with a well-lit sign facing the street. Easy to find.

The set design was awesome. That was really the best thing about this room. It wasn’t a bad room at all, but we’ve done others we like better. You can tell they really cared about immersing you in the experience.

Great effects and set. I felt the puzzles were more standard kinds, but still sufficiently tricky nevertheless. I also wish the ending was less anticlimactic.

Tons of sensors involved in this room, and everything worked really smoothly! The atmosphere is great, you feel like you’re in a small cowboy town; however, it also felt pretty sterile. There were very few decor elements that weren’t used in puzzle solving, so finding the clues felt pretty simple. Excellent theatrics though!

Game was alright, I liked the set a lot but was not a big fan of the puzzles. The ending wasn’t great imo it seemed like they ran out of money, imagination, or space.

Was anything broken?

Yes

Had one puzzle not work that made it impossible to get the correct solution code. GM just gave us the code to it and at the end of the game he said “oh yeah someone must have messed with this”

Rattlesnake Bend was my favorite room at Bust Out; it felt notably more modern than their other games, both in set design and interactions. One piece of tech was a little fiddly (lights didn't consistently trigger), but did not impede solving.

As far as Old West games go, this one is kind of adorable. The set is simple but still very effective, and the puzzles here are good as well. There’s a sense of humor here that put me in a good mood. We did this room with 4 enthusiasts, and I feel like 4 beginners might still be fine here. Great room!

Rattlesnake Bend is a very fun Western themed escape room, complete with a mini town to explore. I really loved the theme and puzzles in this game. The game incorporates a diverse mix of puzzle types that come together for a very engaging experience. The story and characters are fun and add to the experience. Great for all ages, and beginners and experienced players alike.

One of the better “wild west” themes I’ve seen — the story is amusing and the puzzle flow is smooth. It looks more nonlinear than it is, so a smaller group would be better than a larger group, but you’ll need at least 2. Several of the puzzles have multiple layers so communication and observation are key skills. The set is very nice; my only complaint is that the ending is anticlimactic, but that’s a small thing. Recommended.
