I think it is a fantastic idea to set war as a terrifying backdrop. I have no idea how we got to that backdrop after some graffitied pallets and a modern campsite scene that I hear was good but missed because the people ahead were too slow.

I like the uniqueness of this maze. The idea of camping and reading a spooky haunted book and having things go awry. That being said, we were super confused about how this transitions from camping to World War I trench warfare. There’s clearly a story there, but I wish Knott’s would give you some explanation. In the line while you’re waiting to get in would be the perfect place for you to learn about the story you are about to see, since it’s a bit too loud and hectic inside to explain it I think.

The camping theme is pretty unique for a haunted house.

At $35, this is a complete ripoff. Definitely carpool if you can.

Prepare to be spooked. The Knott’s actors are waiting around every turn and know how to pop out at just the right moment to make you jump. The set design is highly detailed and designed for terror at Knott’s Scary Farm. A few cons: the mazes are all very loud with sound effects and music that do little to add to the ambience of fear but do make you want to get out quicker. There is high amount of gore in most of the mazes. We generally prefer haunts that rely on spine-chilling creepiness rather than ritual slaughter. But to each their own. Grimoire’s storyline was very cool and we loved the opening sequence. However, we grew more confused as we walked about what exactly was happening but I guess it doesn’t matter when ghosts are trying to get ya. So we just focused on getting out.

They really skipped all pre maze show that filled you into the idea of the maze. They really just pushed you through because they over sold the nights

While a highlight during its inaugural year, the sophomore year for Grimoire was disappointing for me because they took away the theatrical introduction. Without it, the story loses its foundation, making it a confusing mess for those who wander through it. It still boasts impressive set and sound design, but a book without its beginning makes for a confusing read.

Like this maze but I think it's time for a refresh. Takes time to go through, great sets and props.

The first time I experienced this maze it was cool. The actors in the preshow were always exciting to watch and it was giving a Stranger Things vibe. There’s a bit of time traveling as you transition through each space and it was fun to experience as a whole. I don’t know what was wrong this year because it didn’t feel the same. The set designs were great but also a bit bland because of the theme they were going for. There was really no “Wow” factor. The energy of the maze ramped down towards the end. I don’t know what was going on in the maze that night because we were at a standstill a few times and we could tell it made the Scareactors and actors feel awkward and it kinda ruined the mood. Don’t be discouraged from this review, it’s still a fun maze. Pay attention to the great storytelling.

The Grimoire is one of my favorites a strange camping scene gone wrong. The story isn’t all that clear but it’s still awesome. They had a great opening scene the first year but fast tracked it a bit this year to control flow. That being said it was still fun and really cool outdoor vibes. There are some light gunshot sounds so if that’s a trigger be aware.

Incredible example of immersive storytelling in a walkthrough theme park haunted attraction. Sure it’s not as long or in depth as a fully developed hour long immersive show, but for the type of attraction they really thought outside of the box and made an incredible piece of entertainment.
