Let me start by acknowledging that Padlock’d has made a significant impact on the Gold Coast escape room scene over the years. Their introduction of Indestroom games has transformed many newcomers into dedicated escape room enthusiasts, with some having gone on to play dozens of games. Personally, their early rooms were what sparked my own interest in escape rooms. ‘Paradise Prison’ has some enjoyable puzzles, and the set design is good, but the gameplay could use further refinement. There isn’t a clear starting point, and players can bypass two puzzles in the first room. Additionally, one puzzle’s effectiveness is hampered by the specific prop used. As a result, ‘Paradise Prison’ feels more like a collection of puzzles with a prison theme rather than an immersive prison escape experience. This isn’t to say the puzzles themselves are bad — a few are actually quite enjoyable — but the connection between the puzzles and the in-game world doesn’t quite hit the mark. It feels like the design lessons from Padlock’d’s earlier rooms haven’t been fully applied here. Every puzzle should have a purpose, clear guidance for the players, and a logical fit within the game’s narrative and world. Just like with their other recent room, ‘The Crystal Mine’, there’s room for improvement. If the Game Master mentions that all groups struggle with the same puzzles, that’s usually a sign that adjustments are needed to reduce the reliance on hints. I know this review is lengthy, but it’s only because I care. Padlock’d has the expertise to elevate these rooms from good to great. I hope they take into account the typical player’s experience and continue refining their games to become standout examples in the Gold Coast escape room industry. The rooms are visually appealing, and a few of the puzzles in ‘Paradise Prison’ work well as they are.

A great escape room, classic prison style, but with some cool tech puzzles!

This was a cool room, definitely on the easier side. Mainly high tech puzzles but a few old school mechanical ones as well. Had some interesting puzzles that we haven’t seen before. This space is very small but there’s a decent amount crammed in.

This was my first ever escape room and the beginning of my addiction. Since I've done all of Padlockd's rooms so can't wait for them to drop some more

Clearly designed as an introduction to escape rooms, to entice tourists in the tourist hub to try an escape room then hopefully upselling them onto further experiences at Padlockd’s main facility -which is a great thing! Although I would guess that many experienced escapers would find this room very easy and be left wanting more. Still a fun theme and very enjoyable puzzles.

Padlockd are some of our favourite escape rooms to date, however this one left us wanting more. A few of the puzzles were great, but we felt it needed more in the room itself. Don’t think it deserves to be 3/5 difficulty as it was definitely more on the easy side. One of the padlock letters were all rubbed off making it quite hard to see.

Wasn’t the best room. The lettered padlock was all worn out and could hardly see the letters same with something that you needed to read.
