For an additional charge, the Captain’s Quest is a virtual reality escape room that offers up to 10 cruisers the chance to escape from a sunken ship. Again, this is very popular, so make sure to reserve it early in the cruise so you don’t miss out like we did!

This review will be a tale in two parts. First, as others have said, this is not an escape room put on by folks who run escape rooms. It seems as though it was designed by someone and then left in the hands of the cruise ship employees, which is obviously not your typical experience. We absolutely had a couple things not reset correctly, and we definitely had the game a little over explained to us for sure. Parts of the game felt a little worn down, though we didn’t experience anything obviously broken, and didn’t get the “hey this is broken so I’ll tell you when” bit that others did. Must have been repaired recently. It’s a short room at 45 minutes, and if you have experience with escape rooms, the puzzles will be very straightforward for you. On the flip side, the staff member running our game was friendly and enthusiastic. The room itself is very well themed and the props and puzzles were on point for the theme. The VR start was a little unnecessary but VR is the theme of this section of the boat so it makes sense that they’d include it. We didn’t have any issues with our VR either. There was a good mix of tech and old fashioned locks and a couple unique puzzles that, while simple, we haven’t seen elsewhere. Bottom line, if you’re new to escape rooms, check it out and give it a shot, but know that rooms do get better so if you like this at all, keep trying em! If you’re experienced with escape rooms, keep your expectations lower, but don’t avoid it! It’s a fun little room that’s inexpensive and will be part of your cruise memory when all is said and done.

The whole experience was awful and definitely do not recommend. As escape room enthusiasts, we were excited to find an escape room on our ship. Though, the experience from the very beginning was horrendous. It starts with a VR preshow that no one’s VR headset actually worked. Then we stepped inside of the room, which the game master told us, “that box right there is the last thing you’ll do, but it’s broken so I’ll tell you when to open it.” There were massive tech problems throughout the entire experience that the game master had to come in to try and fix. Mag locks were broken so we were able to access items we shouldn’t have. Overall, terrible experience and would not recommend.

To start out, the staff in the Galaxy pavilion were some of the most rude I’ve ever experienced on any cruise ship… ever. Once the experience started, the intro is done with VR headsets, of which my groups either never started working or stopped working halfway through the video. Once entering the room, the game master instantly told us that something was broken and that we wouldn’t need it until the end. The “second room” is partitioned with some draped chain and you can’t go into it until you’re told to (which to me is weird). The actual puzzles and things seemed like they were designed by someone who has never played an escape room. While playing, there were more things that appeared broken or not functioning. The game master repeatedly kept coming into the room to tell us things or show us how to do things because a lot of the tech based items were broken or had to be used a specific way. The game master also started resetting the room while we were still playing and put something back that was part of the story. I was expecting it to be bad because you know… cruise ship escape room.. but many more things were broken and the staff was more rude than expected. All and all I would recommend this room if you’re one of the few people who are escape room enthusiasts and also on the Norwegian Encore. Just for the sake that it’s $15, might as well do it to see how fortunate we are to have other, nicer games.
