Snakebite Saloon [prev. Sundown Saloon]

Live actor as a bartender for the whole duration. She was totally in her role, having old west accent and wearing old-school barkeep clothes. Nice non-linear puzzles flowing well.

A fun take on the old west saloon game. Was interesting having the GM in the room as the barkeep. Some puzzles were a little obtuse, some required mobility, and some required colors.

Very fun room and we had a fantastic host! This was my first time playing an escape room with a game master who stays in the room the entire time, and Mikael played it perfectly. He really added to the experience and immersion of the room, and I loved how interaction was needed with the bartender to progress the room. Definitely recommend!!

This room was so fun and we had an amazing host, Vikki!! The puzzles were decently hard, but with 4 of us we made it. Only thing that really threw us off was that you use the same part of the room for 2 different puzzles, which isn't common so it took us a hint to figure that one out. But overall really fun and worth it!! Lovw the videos they play for the story too!

The live actor in this room was appropriate and helpful. He plays the bar tender and you never need to get behind the bar so he's never in the way.

Unlike most escape rooms, Portland Escape Rooms has their game masters stay in the room the whole time. They are playing a character and they leave you alone, for the most part, until you interact with them. This can be awkward for many. With SunDown Saloon and Arcade it was fine since they stay in one place because both are jut one room games. In Fortuneteller, they follow you around from room to room. As for the puzzles in SunDown Saloon, we found them to be pretty weak overall…unnecessary searching, find the difference puzzles, etc. However, for first time players this game would be fine. Another thing you should know is that teams only get 3 hints and the game masters will not give nudges. If you need help, you have to ask for it. These days most escape rooms give unlimited hints and will ask if you are okay with nudges. Not here. All that being said, Katie, our game master was very good. We had her for all three rooms we played.
