You and your friends buy tickets to attend a Midnight Movie Special at what seems to be an ordinary cinema at first glance. Yet, you can’t shake the feeling that something is off. The host is acting strangely and appears to be the only employee around. The walls haven’t been cleaned in a while, and you hear strange noises. You and your friends seem to be the only ones in the cinema… along with the host, right? You try to brush it off and tell yourself you’re here to enjoy the movie. But then..

We thought the room was fine, though not particularly scary. Navigating a movie theater is interesting, and there are some fun nods to cinema, but this room suffered from coming after we played in Athens for three days, so it seemed pretty mild in comparison.

I’m going to say this simply… I really love what they create at Outerground. Midnite is the third game I’ve played here, and I love their passion for escape game design. Jason’s Legacy had a beautiful, engaging set full of surprises, The Execution elevated the prison scenario, and now Midnite takes on the horror genre. This game combined horror elements you’d find in Athens with a campy story and an oversized theater set, that felt like we were in a real movie theater. Go have fun playing this game. I can’t wait to see what they do next!

A beautiful and authentic set design, great effects, and a strong opening that sets the tone immediately. The tension curve stays a little flat throughout and the finale feels a little abrupt, but this also means that it's a great intro to more scary games!
Gameplay
The puzzles fit the theme and are fun to solve, but the main difficulty comes mainly from spotting something in one area, remembering it, and applying it somewhere far away.
Atmosphere
This is where Midnite really shines. The set design is beautiful and nostalgic, with fun nods to other OuterGround games and classic 80s movies. The lighting is very well done, the soundtrack supports the experience nicely. The scares themselves are well executed and never go too far. The easter eggs and foreshadowing woven throughout the game are a nice touch, and really pay off well by the end.

Story
The start of the game is really strong, with a creepy yet funny interaction that pulls you right in. There’s clever foreshadowing throughout that gets resolved by the end, which is satisfying.

Midnight by OuterGround was the first room of Day 2 of our NL/BL 4-day escape tour 2026 and the 4th game overall. We played as a group of 5 and had a great time. Two people in our team aren’t particularly fond of scary experiences, but they were completely fine with how this one was executed, it creates tension without pushing things too far. This room is clearly made with care and attention to detail, especially in its theming around cinema and going to the movies. As someone who loves films, I might be slightly biased, but the amount of small references and atmosphere tied to movie culture was fantastic. The puzzles lean toward the easier side, which makes sense given the tension-driven nature of the experience. The focus is more on immersion than complexity. The acting was sharp and well timed, and the sound and lighting design were outstanding, constantly reinforcing the mood. Recommended for players who don’t mind a bit of tension and atmosphere, but who don’t necessarily want full horror.

We are horror noobs, and we were all a bit scared to enter this room, but I am so, so happy that we did! From the fantastic set, to the wonderful beginning (that eased us a bit into the experience), all the way to the finale, this room is really, really good. The scares are placed in a way that makes this approachable for people who haven't played a lot of horror. The puzzles are simpler, but still fun. The use of light was fantastic. Highly recommend this, even if you are a bit hesitant to play horror rooms!

You and your friends are attending a midnight showing of a film, but it seems the cinema is not used to having customers. Although it is already clear what we are in for, there is a nice actor interaction to help get you into the story. The room is beautifully built (I actually wonder if they could use it for staff movie nights or something, as it is very authentic). There is one really cool effect, but half our team didn't notice it - perhaps there were too scared to look around ;-) This room is advertised as a horror room, and I am not the bravest, but I was able to endure quite well (it helps that I was the bravest of our group of 4.. ha!). So if you are hesitant, don't be! The puzzles were well integrated into the space, and there was one puzzles I LOVED that was integrated with technology in a way I had not seen before (no spoilers). As with many "scary" rooms, the puzzles in general were not too deep, and we definitely got our steps in during this room (iykyk). I am so happy we were able to get a booking during our trip!

I always love how the OuterGround GMs spend time to talk to you after the game. The cinema usher was awesome ;-)

We played this room for free as the first test team. Although there were some things we think could be improved, the experience was already amazing! It is a room you are going to play for the experience itself, the puzzles are very good but not the main focus of the room. The actor in the room really made the room come alive and startled us many times. Really a must play!
