Team vs team rooms. Unlike some other rooms I've done, there is a lot of interaction with the game master and lots to do. But at the end of the day, we were playing with friends and even though we won at the end. Not everyone got to finish their puzzles, so that's something I think I'd like to see change for this one in particular. But I do love Omescape as an escape room company overal.

Loved the room! So much to do any so many elements that provide a challenge for even the most experienced players in our team. Definitely come with as many people as you can fit in a room. I enjoyed both this one and Chaos in the Galleria but I found Hong Kong to be my favorite for the competitive aspect and variety of puzzles!

Alright so I have a lot to say about this experience. So much I’m gonna have to split this into 3 distinct parts. But tldr i think it’s a rly good idea that could have been done better and I don’t think is run properly. 1. Its very good! It’s very rare to find a team vs. team game like this. I actually don’t know of anything else exactly like this now that I think about it. Basically you have two different teams playing two 90 minute games of equal difficulty at the same time in the same space. The space is appropriately massive and very densely packed with puzzles. When we first got into the largest space I legitimately got lost from the rest of my group very briefly that’s how daunting it is. And there’s a good amount of twists take on with this gameplay style throughout that always keeps it engaging. The game also looks rly nice. And also the puzzles themselves are all pretty good. Because of this even with my issues this game still barely squeezes out a heart rating. 2. It’s concept is flawed (the sabotage mechanic) (Note this section does slightly spoil one minor aspect of the gameplay and also hints at some twists in the gameplay so if you rly wanna go in blind maybe scroll past this part quickly and try not to read) I don’t think it does what it sets out to do the best that it could have. In particular an optional “sabotage” mechanic that they put a lot of the games puzzle content into really doesn’t work the way they wanted it to. First of all a lot of the puzzles required to use this mechanic become inaccessible by the time it unlocks which was a weird oversight. But second of all for how much effort you have to put to activate this mechanic the repercussions fie the other team are very very small in our limited experiences with the mechanic. This is a large amount of decent puzzles that we completely skip over because of this mechanic. 3. Not sure this game is run properly I don’t at all want to disparage the game master or any of the staff or owners, but I don’t believe this game is run the way it should be. I also think any of this could have been our fault and we missed something so take all this with a grain of salt. Our GM promised she would be around to give hints, and at some point she did randomly walk through and ask us if we needed help (which was the intercom broken or something because in person hints always feel awkward). But throughout the second half of the game she never walked in and to my knowledge there was no way to contact her so we had no way to get hints that whole time. The other team only got one hint because a team member accidentally opened an alarmed door to the hallway (which was the only door out of the room at this point so I’m not sure why it was alarmed) which alerted her over. There also was a reset issue with the room that I talk about in game breakage section below. The thing is, I’ve seen other people online saying they had reset issues with Midnight in HK, and I’ve seen people saying they didn’t get the best GM service, and (sorry making assumptions) it probably is because of the fact that this facility has 8 (almost all 90+ minute) game that all run parallel to each other so GM’s sometimes have more than one game to run at once most likely. (Also we went on New Years so it was probably hard to find staff on this particular day.) I just wish they could put a little bit more attention to these games cause this is great but it could be even better. But hey, they’re pumping out world class escape rooms yearly, Omescape can just keep doing what they’re doing. So yeah overall it’s a fun experimental room that if you have the (very) large group to play and you’re in the area for a while yeah you should play it, but if you only have a little time in the area this is honestly the omescape Sunnyvale I would least recommend, mostly because with such an advanced concept it needs a lot more care put into it than what it gets. Woah I typed a lot
Well we couldn’t get hints for like 80% of the game so that’s an issue.

The other team could not find a component of their puzzle. Afterwards the GM said it was in a drawer that opened to give components to a previous puzzle, but someone on that team later told me that drawer relocked after solving that puzzle. Either way they didn’t see it anyway so they had no chance to beat us to solving that puzzle (and also it wouldn’t have made sense to put instructions to a later puzzle in this drawer anyway since this game is very linear and gives all materials to a single puzzle at once in this stage of the game). This would not be surprised if their was our fault, but the other team found this very annoying.

It’s an original concept - team vs. team with Team Dragon and Team Tiger vying for the coveted spot of being Mr. X’s next gang overlords. However, the problem with this, like someone already mentioned in the reviews, is that there will always be a team that loses. That may sour the experience for some folks. I imagined this being an experience where each team has a separate room but with the same puzzles but it actually is the same room, with the puzzles overlapping one another. The flow feels off because of this design. The videos felt unnecessary and outdated somehow. The game master also yelled at us a little too much and fostered a lot of unnecessary animosity. I liked the room and what they’ve done with the space. Their puzzles were also clever, and sabotaging could still happen unintentionally, which could ruin an individual’s chance of finishing their personal puzzle. Personally though, I did not need the team vs team or maybe they could pair groups up with folks that they don’t know. Clever idea but falls flat in the execution.

So I appreciate their desire to try something new and different, but the problem with the team vs team thing is half of the group feels bad when they leave. Also not all the puzzles are on your teams radar, so I don’t know what the other team did and that sucks. We had something not register, which kind of sucked. Playspace was big and well themed. Not a huge fan of the videos. The GM yelled at us while in character and it was just plain NOT ok. I wasn’t even getting yelled at and I was uncomfortable. The flow felt off in this game too.
Very novel idea. They tried some stuff. I don’t think it all worked well.
At one point the GM was in character and was screaming at the top of their lungs at us. It was not necessary.

I really liked the idea of a competition room with 2 gangs competing. Everything you solve in this room, you will truly have to earn, so when you make progress here, you should feel great about it.

Might be biased since my team won… but I had a good time. Cool concept for a room and the competition aspect was fun!

Should out Truth, awesome GM. Amazing experience overall and fantastic game. I've played team v team games before and this one is the best one yet. Each side it truly equal and a great set. Highly recommend, hidden gem!

Really cool team vs team concept. So many puzzles to solve that the room can actually be repeated.
