It's the summer of 1922. There's rumors around the town about an illustrious "whispering pub" where it's said fantasies and dreams you didn't even know you had come alive. Only a select circle of the beautiful and powerful has access to this exclusive bar- and you and your friends are invited. But be aware! The bar and its secret are in danger: the hilarious parties and illegal activities of the Speakeasy society are a thorn in the side of the police. Can you get access to the bar and unravel the green fairy's secret before the police arrive?

We had previously played Mafia and Abandoned Cabin in Melbourne, so when we suddenly had time to spare in Adelaide, we quickly booked The Speakeasy. As always, the quality of Adventure Rooms surprised us, and we don’t know why their games don’t get more love. This was a really nice, polished room with multiple spaces and excellent tech all throughout. The puzzles weren’t necessarily easy but they were relatively straightforward and sufficiently signposted, so groups of all experience levels should be able to do the room without finding it too simple or too hard. One of the best rooms we played on our Adelaide trip.

The Speakeasy was one of the most enjoyable rooms we’ve played at Adventure Rooms. Even though we didn’t manage to escape, we didn’t feel discouraged — the low success rate of this room speaks for itself! Compared to The Black Queen, which we found too lock-heavy, The Speakeasy offered a more balanced mix of challenges. Good lighting definitely came in handy in certain areas, which added to the sense of immersion without being frustrating. There were a few red herrings that tripped us up, but that’s all part of the fun and challenge. The puzzles themselves were very clever. At times we knew what to do but stumbled a little in execution, so the occasional hint from our games master helped us keep momentum. Speaking of which, our games master was fantastic — friendly, enthusiastic, and thorough in the pre-game briefing. We learned quickly not to dismiss anything in the room, as almost everything could prove useful. Our group’s logical thinkers shone in some moments, but one of the best parts of this room is how valuable a fresh pair of eyes can be — sometimes it was just spotting a detail or double-checking an input that moved us forward. In terms of design, the first room felt a bit plain and small, but the second and third spaces were much more immersive, with décor that pulled us into the story beautifully. The overall atmosphere was excellent, and even when we hit dead ends, the game stayed engaging and fun. We came incredibly close to escaping, even with an extra ten minutes generously offered by our games master. The final puzzles were particularly tough and kept us guessing until the very end, which made the experience memorable. Overall: The Speakeasy is a well-crafted, immersive, and challenging escape room that we’d happily recommend. With its clever puzzles, engaging atmosphere, and thoughtful design, it’s a standout at Adventure Rooms and a great choice for groups looking for a real test of teamwork and logic.

The puzzles were clever and varied, with a nice balance compared to more lock-heavy rooms. A few red herrings slowed you down, but overall the flow was logical and engaging. Execution tripped you up at times, but with occasional guidance, the game remained fun and rewarding.
The first room felt a little plain, but the second and third were well-decorated and immersive, tying beautifully into the speakeasy theme. The overall atmosphere kept everyone engaged, even when the puzzles were tough.
Our games master was enthusiastic, friendly, and gave a clear pre-game briefing. She supported our group with well-timed nudges and even extended our playtime, making the experience welcoming and enjoyable.
Yes
The room wasn’t groundbreaking in design, but it had unique, clever puzzles that required teamwork, logical thinking, and fresh perspectives. Not every group member could solve everything, which added to the variety and challenge.
The speakeasy theme came through well, especially in the later rooms where décor and immersion tied everything together. While not the most complex or narrative-heavy story, it provided a strong backdrop for the puzzles.
Hard
This was a tough room with a low escape rate. Even with an extra ten minutes, we came close but weren’t sure we’d solve the final puzzle. The difficulty was challenging without being unfair, making success especially satisfying for groups that get through it.

Good room with some nice puzzles. Not too overly complicated and a little bit redundant in opening locks and finding keys and finding numbers for locks etc. Theme itself is nice and I like that 20s area, always. Props and room decor pretty nice and some nice 1920s props, I would say ;) Though, no introduction at the beginning of the room, as is usually given, to set the mood and story etc. Thus it felt a bit thrown in and not as atmospheric and immersive.

Enjoyed this one a lot! Simple puzzles compared to the other rooms but still very enjoyable!

Tonnes to do in this immersive and surprisingly large game.
