When she was discovered murdered in her own bedroom, everyone was shocked. Everyone...except Roxy. She'd suspected she was in danger ever since she found out some secrets at school, but whose secret ended her young, promising life? The police's investigation has begun; however, Roxy's parents believe the key to solving who killed her lies in the strange puzzles scattered throughout her room. They've hired your team of private detectives to solve Roxy's secrets, but you best hurry before the killer skips town and her death becomes yet another unsolved mystery.

⭐ 5/10 — Great Set, Underwhelming Game As experienced escape room players, we really wanted to love The Murder of ’89. The set design was definitely the highlight — the room looked great, the atmosphere was there, and visually it felt like it had the potential to be a really strong experience. Unfortunately, the actual gameplay didn’t quite live up to the set. The puzzles felt a little lackluster and the overall theme/story wasn’t developed enough for us. We kept waiting for that moment where everything would start to come together or the game would really kick into another gear, but it never quite got there. For such an interesting premise, we felt like there was a lot more that could have been done with both the mystery and the puzzles. The ending was definitely different from your traditional escape room. Instead of solving your way to actually escaping, the final objective was to determine who murdered the girl and what weapon they used. If your accusation was correct, you won. We can appreciate them trying something different, but for us, it wasn’t particularly satisfying. This ending felt more like submitting an answer to a murder mystery than escaping a room. Out of all the rooms here, we completed all escape the wizard room, this room is the weakest for sure for us. Overall, the set design did a lot of the heavy lifting here. Visually, it was on point, but the puzzles, story progression, and finale needed more to make the experience memorable. We didn’t hate it, but this one just didn’t give us the puzzle satisfaction or payoff we look for. Final Rating: 5/10 🔐 meh… Great set. Cool concept. Just needed stronger puzzles and a much better payoff.

This room was fine. Very prop-heavy. Many of the props were showing significant wear, but nothing that impeded the solvability. There is a unique open-ended game mechanic where you have to accuse a suspect and name the weapon at the end, which I found to be not as straightforward as the rest of the game. (That is not a spoiler, they explain that game mechanic before you enter the room.) While this was not exactly a bad game, this venue has better options.

Story

This had a more cohesive story than you usually get in a room. You really have to pay attention to the clues to solve the mystery. The 80's theme was integrated throughout.

Not the most *flashy* room out there, but very unique! My parents loved all the 80s references.

Non-traditional, fairly unsatisfying ending to an otherwise good room with alright puzzle. Felt very linear after a certain point. Some of the clues are well hidden or obfuscated which led to good amount of confusion from our team. Different vibe from their other rooms One of the clues was not clear because of the art/source material used. In unclear text/font, which was anti-pattern compared to rest of group of similar items for the puzzle. Biggest gripe with ending was how unclear the answer was supposed to be built up… you expect some level of clarity at the very end, with some level of puzzle solving; but it felt more confusing then anything else.

Murder of ‘89 was a good room. We were a bit confused in some parts on what we were supposed to do next. We made it to the very end and then guessed the incorrect murderer. We got the weapon correct. The room design was very good as it looked like you were in an 80’s teenagers room. Kind of small so I wouldn’t recommend more than 3 people (maybe 4). The staff were very nice.

Pretty straightforward flow! We did it with four people pretty quickly, there’s a fun element of it being a Whodunnit and you’re trying not just to escape but to solve who did it and with what weapon. Would definitely consider doing another room at this location!

The theming of this room was so fun and very different from other crime themed rooms I’ve done. The puzzles were set up in a way where we could all contribute and work on pieces separately.

I think accessibility seems touch with escape rooms. This is probably more accessible than other rooms. Most things were within reach and we did not need to be very active.
