UnseenLost in Melbourne - Exhibition StreetEscape roomIRLGreat room with solid puzzles and great use of space! I really enjoyed this one, the puzzles felt great to solve and I like when rooms force communication between players to proceed. Some of the puzzles are a little disjointed but not enough to derail the flow. The set is really well done as well and houses a crawl space as well. One small thing to improve for the space is just let people know that only one person needs to traverse it so the others don't have to because crawling back can be a bit strenuous and somewhat dangerous since there is only one light shared between your group and it is pitch black without it. Other than that, this is a fantastic room!
Bella [prev. Annabelle]Lost in Melbourne - Flinders LaneEscape roomIRLPersonally this is the best room that the Flinder's Lane venue has to offer with a great mix of puzzles and great use of the space as well. The puzzles are nice and varied and make use of cool tech to make them flow very well. I only had an issue with the skill based game towards the start of the room because the item we were fishing for got stuck in an unreachable spot which could be avoided with a little adjustment. The set is really cool as well and makes use of the verticality of the venue. I love when rooms do this! The room has been operational for a while now and there is a bit more obvious wear and tear in places but nothing that detracted from the experience. Definitely do this room if you're looking to a room at this venue!
Meat GrinderEscape This - Melbourne CBDEscape roomIRLA really good room with a great quality set to match! Escape This do always have good sets and it is no exception for this room, the room is decorated very generously and is actually quite large as well. The puzzles are great as well and make very good use of mechanics and high tech. I only had frustrations with a skill based stacking game which ended with the blocks falling over and landing on my arm (ouch) This room is definitely the best Escape This room I've done to date across all venues!
Before MidnightLost in Melbourne - Flinders LaneEscape roomIRLThere was bit in this room that felt very rough and I was a bit confused about the theming in this room. From the start, the theme was described to be an abandoned studio but the first room was a Chinese cemetery which left me quite confused on the theming for this room. The puzzles are quite rudimentary but passable. The room was relatively dim at all times so we had trouble seeing a lot of clues. The set was also quite poorly maintained, there were several holes in the walls (which I assume were caused by rowdy customers) and a lot of the props on the walls which seemingly looked like they had been punched? A very confusing experience and I think you'll have a better time with the other rooms at this venue.
FracturedEscape Room Melbourne - ERMEscape roomIRLSo funny thing, we only had expected to do Kellar's that night but as we were walking back to the station and planning to do another room for the night, our gamemaster called us and asked if we wanted to do this room as well. I am so glad he did because this room was great. The room is a old school style room but the puzzles were so thematic and tied in with the story very well and made the game flow seamlessly. The set is not large but a lot of care has been put in to make use of every part of the room and the room benefits a lot from it. If you're in the South Yarra area this is definitely one of the must do rooms!
Kellar's Magic EmporiumEscape Room Melbourne - ERMEscape roomIRLI really liked this room and the puzzles from room to room were great. The puzzles were generally themed very well in this room and I enjoyed how they bolded important information to help you stay on track. I also enjoyed the personalised touch added to this room and that's something I always love added to rooms. The theming in the room was a little strange it does go from magician themed to serial killer themed? Please be aware when booking this room if you are sensitive to gore. I still think its a solid room though and personally the theming didn't detract from the experience at all.
BurlesqueEscapeXperienceEscape roomIRLI love multilinear rooms and Burlesque is a perfect example of one. Whilst the set isn't that large, the designers made excellent use of the space they had to create more engaging puzzles. Speaking of puzzle they are littered everywhere within the room and I had a great time tackling all the varied puzzles. Set was also great and all the rooms were decorated and themed very well! This is a must do room if you're in the area!
AmnesiaEscapeXperienceEscape roomIRLA good room with a good variety of puzzles scattered throughout The puzzles in the room are good with a good mix of logical thinking puzzles and pattern recognition puzzles. There were some cool science based puzzles that stood out as well. Our team did find the room a bit easy and we only used 42 minutes out of the allocated 60 minutes. The set is a little bit worn down but not to the point that it detracted from the experience. solid room!
ClockworksEscapeXperienceEscape roomIRLA great room with a good assortment of challenging and abstract puzzles The puzzles are quite varied and some of them require a lot of out of box thinking. I do think the puzzles provide a great challenge and I enjoyed trying to rack my brains. The set is decent but nothing to write home about Great room if you're up to the challenge!
Rusty Lake HotelRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual A very good puzzle game with the premise of finding creative ways to murder each of the guests each day. Puzzle flow was great and the story is as confusing as every other Rusty Lake game.
Escape From Flamingo House - CLOSEDSydney Fringe FestivalEscape roomPop upWhat an amazing and different type of game, lovingly crafted by a very passionate gamemaster. The game is a combination of a tabletop roleplaying game and an escape room. You'll be interacting with a miniature doll house and inspecting all the miniature furniture to progress the game. The gamemaster does a wonderful job setting the scene and they are part of the game itself so you need to interact with them to progress as well. The doll house itself has been meticulously crafted as well and does a wonderful job setting the scene for players. Such a shame that this is only a temporary pop up but definitely worth it! I will definitely look forward to future games!
Cube Escape: The MillRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual The flow and logic in this game is just really confusing...
Cube Escape: BirthdayRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual Nice puzzles with good flow, one of the games where you can start piecing together the lore of Rusty lake.
Rusty Lake: RootsRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual Definitely my favourite of the series so far, the fragmented mini escape rooms tell so much about the story and how all the events blend together!
Cube Escape: Harvey's BoxRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual Great game and we learn a bit about Harvey in this game.
Cube Escape: TheatreRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual Great games with a couple of Easter eggs to other games which help with uncovering the plot
Cube Escape: The CaveRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual Did not enjoy this one, the puzzles are very samey and there are some leaps in logic.
Cube Escape: ArlesRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual This is a spinoff game of the main series and goes into a bit more detail on what the cubes actually mean in these games.
Cube Escape: Case 23Rusty LakeEscape roomVirtual One of the first games with some plot and story telling. The game starts to unfold with Laura's story and what happened to her.
Cube Escape: SeasonsRusty LakeEscape roomVirtual One of the first Rusty lake games, it's a bit finicky as expected but it still holds up!
