Wine Cellar
Escape Manor - Toronto

Possibly the best escape room I've ever done. There was a puzzle that was pre-solved for us which was annoying but other than that the puzzles were very creative and fun. We did the hard mode which wasn't too difficult. Highly recommended.

This was a fun experience and I'd recommend it as an experience moreso than an escape room. The puzzle solving experience isn't much better than most escape rooms, but the atmosphere and live acting are what sets of apart from most.

Overall this is a mixed experience. The puzzles are a mixed bag, some are better than others. The biggest disappointment is that the puzzles don't have you do anything in the historic buildings. You just go in grab the puzzle which is placed out in the open and move on. Most of the building is roped off and off limits, so it's not like an escape room in that way. Still not bad for the price when you factor in promo codes. We went when the sun was out, but the atmosphere is probably much better when it's dark out.

I did this with a group of 8, which was too crowded. And because there were so many of us there was a lot of standing around and taking turns trying to solve the puzzles, which does tend to happen with large groups. We left feeling unsatisfied, the puzzles were at times creative and a level above standard combination locks but also somewhat standard. But overall there simply wasn't enough content to justify the price.

This would be a good room if they fixed the issues. We ran into issues repeatedly with things not working as intended. It was a fun idea for a room, and the puzzles would have been interesting. But several of the mechanics not working as intended completely ruined the experience for us. We had to use hints for the staff to tell us we found the solution but the mechanisms were finicky. The staff had warned us about one of the mechanisms at the start, but there were several other issues. By the time we got things worming we had already spent so much time trying to figure out what we were doing wrong that we ran out of time. But since noone had the room booked after us they let us continue after time expired which was nice of them.

A complete waste of money, it seems like somebody put this together in a few hours. They say it has a 58% completion rate, I can only imagine that's from people giving up out of boredom as there's no challenge. The "puzzles" are just a matter of simply following straight forward instructions. For the most part it's a walking tour with 8 or so stops, but the "tour" is just a fact or two about each building that I assume they found on Google. You'll spend a couple of minutes at each location, so even though it's named after the distillery district you'll only spend a few minutes there. This also depends on public access to the sites, and there is a note on the site warning you against playing when the distillery district is closed for the winter village. But we had an issue with employees at another location hurrying us along. The entire game takes place in a chat, you have to put the right answer in to progress. There are some audio components, but that didn't work for my group. Perhaps because we didn't give them our phone numbers which it says is optional. If you still decide to try this, note that during checkout they ask how many players you have and will charge you per player. Each player will get to "play" along on their phone, but if you're playing as a group anyways you can just share. You can pick one player by clicking the custom group size in check out. We ran into some issues, the puzzles were a bit janky at times making us think we hadn't found the solution even though we had, it just didn't work as expected. It's also a shorter room, so there weren't too many puzzles for the price. The atmosphere was also somewhat lacking.
