Mindtrix is really good at making clever puzzles with some impressive tech. This room had a really cool device that impressively connected to another to solve a puzzle. It also had a really difficult (but fun) dexterity challenge and some unique puzzles. The thing that lacks in all of their rooms though is immersion. All the rooms feel like an escape room. It's not an immersive adventure and more of rooms filled with some puzzles tied together with a general theme. This game has the same problem. It's not a lived in lab of a great scientist. It's three normal rooms with the items needed to solve puzzles. Remove the puzzles and there is nothing left. If Mindtrix can figure out how to add that immersion... they could have something REALLY special.

The first 2/3 of the game are fantastic. The set design is fantastic, having the team separated and working together to get out is a blast, and the puzzles are clever, unique, and on theme. Prison Break is also really immersive. It doesn't feel like an escape room... until the last room. The end no longer feels like a Prison Break and the immersion falls away. It largely becomes a situation of "solve these random puzzles for... some reason". That being said, the first 2/3 of the room still definitely make it a room worth doing, especially with a team of 4-7 people.

THE most underrated room in the Portland area. I have no idea how it flies under the radar. The atmosphere of the hotel is unmatched. It is so beautifully designed and immersive. It never feels like a room, but a true experience in a fantastic environment. The puzzles and effects are fantastic. But the real can't-miss aspect is an environment that I have NEVER seen in a room, that I never even thought was possible to execute. But the crew at Mental Trap aims high, and they knocked it out of the park here.

Mental Trap's biggest strengths are their effects and their ambition. Fortune Teller has both in spades. A fantastic seance with perfect audio and shocking effects I haven't experienced before. There were some technical difficulties, but the ingenuity of the puzzles more than made up for that. Also, bonus points for being the only room I've done that has a puzzle that REQUIRES 4 people. Overall, it was a fun haunt of an escape room executed by some of the best professionals in Portland.

I honestly can't praise this enough. It is an absolute Christmas blast that makes you feel like a kid again. My Wife and I went into the room with low expectations (holiday rooms are usually thrown together), and we were met with the most fun room we've ever done. The puzzles are on the easier side, but that's not the point. The story is engaging, there is a huge collection of fun and exciting puzzles, the effects are shockingly impressive, the set design is perfect, the room(s) feel like a Christmas playground, and there are so many surprises that made us cheer. Jessica was an amazing game master. We have done nearly all of Portland Escape Rooms experiences (at both locations), and this is easily the best. If you want to feel the Christmas Spirit, do this room now. Absolutely an amazing time!

There's a lot of promise. The lounge is easily the best part. The melding of the themes, the overall design, the cameras looking in on the games, and the food/drink are amazing. That whole aspect of Portal Adventures is top notch and definitely makes it a great place to hang out. The actual escape room side of things was a bit disappointing. The general concept of the Portal organization tying together the rooms is neat. However, there wasn't much about Tomb of the Gods that stood out. The puzzles were pretty straightforward, the rooms weren't particularly memorable, and the immersive element was missing. Nothing was bad, but there are a lot of rooms in the Portland area (and specifically with a similar theme) with more to offer. On the positive side, Sam was a really great game master. He helped a lot when one of the puzzles wasn't working, and gave the right amount of guidance throughout. You could tell he was really enthusiastic about what he does. The biggest critique I have is that Portal Adventures does not have any interest in small groups. My Wife and I had actually been keeping tabs on when this location would open so that we could be there day one. We have done 50 rooms across the Portland/Vancouver/Clackamas area and this one was opening right next to our house and looked really promising. When we went to book, we saw that for groups of 3-6 (2 wasn't even an option) it was a flat rate that was equivalent to paying for 6 people. That is just completely unfathomable for the group of three that we have done most of these rooms with. I reached out to ask how this could possibly be the case, as I have never seen that significant of a requirement before (I've seen a couple that require 4 tickets be purchased). The response was: "This is due to the scale and large size of our adventures compared to other escape rooms. We've created some very large, custom theatrical sets for these adventures that require a great deal of coordination, and as a result require more players to solve. These adventures were designed for groups of 6+ players, but it is possible for groups of 4-5 to come and participate (Though quite challenging)". Well after months of waiting for family to come into town, I can tell you that is a bold-faced lie (at least for Temple of the Gods). There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my wife and I would have breezed through that room on our own. Only one puzzle required two people, and there were nowhere near enough puzzles to make it unmanageable for a small team. I appreciate the confidence in themselves, but our team of 2-3 has bested much larger scale and challenging rooms. If you have a huge group of people that want to hang out and do escape rooms for the first time, Portal is a wonderful place to go. It is definitely catered for corporate team building activities. However, if you are an escape room enthusiast with a "small" team (I have only experienced one room that actually required four players), you are better off looking elsewhere. I love escape rooms, so I am eager to be proven wrong. I look forward to eventually doing Voyager, but unless the system changes up, I'll just wait until the next time family is in town to justify the unreasonable price.

Completely phenomenal!!! We've done a ton of escape rooms, so our expectations weren't high... but boy were we shocked. The set design and atmosphere was incredible. This is not a room, it's an experience. The whole thing had a cohesive story with organic (and clever) puzzles and mysteries. My Wife and I have done 50 rooms at this point, and this one still had several aspects we had never seen before. Truly amazing. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS HIDDEN GEM.

Like their other room, this room is impressively well crafted. I have done a couple magic related rooms, and this one takes the cake. Do not be fooled. The room may be small, but it is packed with a ton of great puzzles and some of the best game play mechanics I've run into in a room. My Wife and I did this alone and managed to escape and have a blast. Three is probably the ideal number of players. Hopefully you get the same game master as us. He was incredible in both of our games. He delivered the perfect level of hints, kept us immersed, and really cared about the room. Absolutely DO NOT SLEEP ON WUNDERLAND. They are the hidden gem for escape rooms in Portland.

Stumptown puts their whole hearts into every room they do. You can feel the love and passion with every puzzle and every inch of the sets for each of their rooms. And Alchemist's Revenge is their best room yet! The beautiful design, the technology, the effects, the sound, and the story are all the wonderful. Each puzzle is clever and makes the magic feel real. The room is wonderfully immersive with the first and last rooms being rooms I will remember forever. Choosing your own path is also a highlight. Really just a phenomenal room crafted by some of the kindest and most passionate people I've met in my escape room journey.

In Search of An Exit is the most memorable escape room experience you will find in Portland; simple as that. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, it is a unique, immersive, creative, and hilarious blast. Everyone that works there brings so much energy and passion to what they do. It is absolutely incredible. For this room, the puzzles are easily some of the most unique and creative I have seen. I did ~25 rooms before this one and another ~25 since. This one still has so many moments that stick with me. An absolute fantastic room with a strong story. I have done their other room twice, but this one still beats it. I can't wait to save America again :)

In Search of An Exit is the most memorable escape room experience you will find in Portland; simple as that. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, it is a unique, immersive, creative, and hilarious blast. Everyone that works there brings so much energy and passion to what they do. For this specific room, the theming and technology is pitch perfect. It may not be the biggest room you'll play, but it will transport you back to the 80s with clever puzzles and wonderful wit and humor. Really nothing quite like it.

I've done nearly all the rooms in the Portland/Beaverton/Vancouver/Clackamas area and this is still in the top of my list. I've done it twice, and I could keep on doing it. The set design is unlike anything I've seen, the puzzles are clever and engaging, and the effects are the best I've ever seen. One specific moment is my favorite escape room effect. You will completely lose yourself in this game. Hour to Midnight is incredible at designing games, and this is their most impressive.

Ronnie's House is just phenomenal. I've done a lot of rooms before Ronnie's House, and a lot of rooms after... nothing matches the environment and immersiveness of Ronnie's House. My Wife and I love the horror/Kidnapped themes, and this is easily the best. The house is designed to the smallest and most beautifully horrific details. There is so much love and care put into this room. I've always been nervous about actors, but Ronnie is perfect. I've played the room twice, and both times Ronnie creates a fantastic, Spooky, surprising, and fun atmosphere. From the moment you enter, you are completely immersed. The only place the room stumbles is towards the end, but that's just because all the rest of the buildup is so immersive and darkly fun. Going through the house feels organic and each section feels brand new. I could go on and on detailing everything amazing about this room, but really the headline is simple: Ronnie's House is THE must-do room in the PNW.
