7 Deadly Sins
Escapology
Escape room
IRL
4/10 We were a bit disappointed with the 7 Deadly Sins, especially after stepping into the room for the first time and impressed with how beautifully designed the first room was. There is some good, a lot of bad, and some ugly when it comes to this room. The good: As mentioned earlier, the room is beautifully designed and one of the best designed rooms Escapology has in our opinion. The bad: The puzzle design and flow were the weakest parts of the room and made it very frustrating at times. There were so many leaps in logic when it came to figuring out certain puzzles. Even after numerous hints, we were still so confused what certain puzzles were asking and what we needed to do. Some puzzles we solved based off of guessing. The poor puzzle execution really brings down our overall score a bunch. The ugly: Some of the puzzle and mechanics didn’t even work. Our game master even admitted to this saying they haven’t even set up certain aspects of the room yet. What really saves this room from getting a thumbs down is the design and story. We were really disappointed with this room because we have always had good experiences with Escapology.
8-Bit Escape
Escape Room Herndon
Escape room
IRL
This was the final room that we needed to complete at ERH, and they just do not miss with any of their rooms. Right as the game master opens the door for you to enter this room, you are going to be fully immersed in a living room based in the 80s. Everything about this room, from the props to the puzzles themselves make this one of, if not the most perfect 80s themed rooms out there. This room was nonstop fun (even with us being born in the late 90s) and had some very unique puzzles that went with the theme as well. The final part of the room was so much fun and really ended the room with a bang! There is a bonus puzzle after completing the room if you finished in a certain amount of time, which isn’t too difficult. Overall, this was a great room and if you are in the area, it is a must do. 8.5/10

Algernon’s Shop of Magical Goods
Escape Room RVA
Escape room
IRL
6/10 Algernon’s Shop of Magical Goods just about scores high enough to get a thumbs up. This room was full of red herrings, which stumped us as we began creating our own puzzles with no outcome. We also felt that the flow from puzzle to puzzle was off at times and we had to make assumptions in order to complete a lock. A couple things didn’t work properly or took a while to trigger. The set design and overall ambiance of the room was really well done and was the best part of the whole experience. The ending was a bit far-fetched and felt out of place for us.
Alien Agents
Escape Room LoCo
Escape room
IRL
2.6/10 We were let down with Alien Agents. The story of the room was very childish, but the puzzles here are not ideal for children. A lot of the puzzles are over complex due to the fact that we were not given enough information when trying to solve each of them. The flow was all over the place and was chaotic at times. The whole first room was a bit of a let down as it was just a time waster in our opinion. If you are in the DC/Northern VA area, we recommend playing other rooms before trying this one out.
A Pirate's Curse
Escapology - Trumbull
Escape room
IRL
6.1/10 We really wanted to enjoy A Pirate’s Curse a lot more than we did. It’s not because we just missed escaping by a couple seconds, it’s more because of the reasons why we didn’t escape. It still is a good room that we enjoyed, but there are a number of things that brought our overall rating down. Escapology did a good job of immersing us in a very cool and eerie pirate ship setting. The props, decor, and background music all fit the theme super well. It’s the puzzle design and functionality of the puzzles that ruined our experience here. There was one puzzle in the first room that we had correct, but apparently did not push the lever hard enough so we spent 5-10 minutes trying to put in different codes thinking we had the wrong code initially. There were a series of puzzles that required leaps of logic, so either you get lucky by picking the correct word that rhymes with the rest of the riddle, or you get stuck. After them finally telling us the answer, we came to find out the lock itself was jammed. It took a while to unjam it for it to finally open, but our game master did say they are ordering a new one so hopefully this is fixed soon. Lastly, we still don’t understand how one of the final puzzles in the room worked, even after asking for multiple hints and having the game master explain it to us at the end. We really did want to love this room, but these “hiccups” really hindered our experience and prevented this room from being a high thumbs up or even a low heart! P.S.- Be prepared to watch a very long intro video!
Before Moonrise
Escape New Haven
Escape room
IRL
This was the first game we have ever done at Escape New Haven, and it definitely got us interested in doing their other rooms. Lots of unique elements to this game such as the way of receiving hints to deciding how you want the game to end. Absolutely loved this room and is a must do if you are looking for rooms in the New Haven location. 7.7/10
Blitzkrieg
Clue IQ
Escape room
IRL
The instant we stepped to the door, we knew it was going to be a good one. We felt fully immersed the whole time and the room and its puzzles flowed very well. Although, the exit didn’t feel grand compared to the journey along the way this is still another great room made by Clue IQ. If you are in the area, Clue IQ is definitely a must do destination! 8.3/10
Breathless
Mind Factory Escape Games
Escape room
IRL
7.4/10 We really enjoyed our time with Breathless and are excited to see where the story takes us with Mind Factory’s future rooms. The environment and props do a great job of immersing you in this abandoned science lab. We loved how the story was attached into the puzzles. Each one seemed to push the narrative forward, making us feel more engaged with the plot rather than just completing random challenges. This game was ideal for a mid size group because of how well the tasks were distributed. The ending was a bit underwhelming, and we wish it had a bit more of a “wow” factor to it. We have not played their second room, Invasion, as of writing this, but after playing Breathless, we can’t wait to come back to try it out.
Cativeiro - O "Jogo" [Captivity - The "Game"]
D3 Escape Room - Praça do Marquês
Escape room
IRL
9.1/10 What an experience! The immersion and storytelling the moment you knock on the door is some of the best we have ever seen in an escape room. A lot of that comes down to our game master/designer of the room, Neto. We hope you all can have him because he made the experience that much better! The storytelling and adventure we were taken on throughout the room is what really stood out for us. The puzzles themselves we thought were pretty straightforward and not too challenging! If you are ever in Porto, make sure you come out and play Captivity - the “Game!”
Contagion
Escape Dublin
Escape room
IRL
5.2/10 Contagion is considered Escape Dublin’s hardest room, but enthusiasts should find it on the easier side. Puzzles were very number and math heavy. Solve an equation/problem and put your answer into a 3/4 digit lock, that’s how most of the room was. It was a bit time consuming having to try every single lock because there was no clear direction to which answer went to which lock. This is not the most immersive game you will ever play, but we still enjoyed our time. Everything just clicked for us and we set a new record for the room!
