13th Basement - Naughty Elf
Exit Game OC - Anaheim
Escape room
IRL
A fun holiday spin on the regular 13th Basement, with festively updated puzzles and of course, in the holiday spirit, a creepy naughty elf stalking you. Rooms with live actors whose goal is to terrorize you are not my thing, but on the other hand, I do enjoy live actors who give creative performances that just happen to be creepy. This was one of the latter! Our naughty elf was also hysterical in not G-rated ways, lol. A great time, Exit Game is amazing as always!

MindTrap Escape Room - Temecula

I understand how this has won so many awards. The design and the puzzles are next level, and I was really in awe of the originality. The opening story alone is already genius. Definitely a don't miss for escape room fans!

A Christmas Inheritance
Open Door Escape Games - Main Office
Escape room

Instantly my favorite Christmas room! This surprised and charmed us with its hilarious references to those goofy Hallmark holiday movies, the top notch set design, the variety of puzzles, the emphasis on teamwork, and the ultimately heartwarming Christmas story. Extra points to our GM Mia who had us smiling and laughing every time. Top notch experience all around.
Against Us: Space Team
UNLOCKED: Escape Room

I've never done one of these split-the-group-and-compete type rooms, though this one was more collaboration than competition? We eventually needed to work together to escape, which of course made me happy. Cool gadgetry and top notch art design. Very funny "surprise" ending and sorry not sorry I'm in love with Nerf guns now.
Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express
Escapology - Northridge
Escape room
IRL
Straightforward linear room. Puzzles were fun but won't challenge the very experienced room fans. Still, we were told this was the hardest of their rooms. We escaped as a team of 2 and I was entertained the whole way through so that puts it in the happy box for me!
Amnesia
Quest Room - Culver City

More escape than puzzle focused, with great use of the space making it feel much more real than a set. The live actor was great and the twist at the end? No way we could have seen that coming, and it was perfect!
An Office Escape
Cinema Escape Rooms - Los Alamitos
Escape room

This is our third room at this site and it was the most challenging, but also the most fun for me as a fan of The Office. It was so funny! For copyright reasons it's not exactly from the show, but fans will recognize the references. I was impressed by the room design, for its surprise reasons. Linear puzzle that I think flows well, especially when you're smarter than we are, haha. Definitely wins a Dundie for funniest one I've done so far, and completely nails that ending!
Area 15

Very cool mix of puzzles included a fun techy one. It was much more challenging than I thought at first glance, which is a plus to our team. I think this game is being retired soon, so as a sci-fi fan, I loved the references used in the room. I caught: Alien, Star Wars, Star Trek, Independence Day, X-Files, Mork and Mindy, Superman, Toy Story, Signs (?), Futurama, Men in Black, District 9, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Predator. So much fun. To the designer, a heartfelt Nanu Nanu!
Ark Of The Covenant
Cinema Escape Rooms - Los Alamitos

We zoomed through this one fairly quickly, aside from one doh! moment. So I think two experienced players could do this, but three was a very efficient number. It's a small older-feeling setup, but I really enjoyed it! I'm also a Raiders of the Lost Ark fan, so I'm biased. A good family friendly beginnerish room!!
Art In Our Time

While doing Tipsy Tailor, we heard this room was a good beginner/two person/date night/family room. So I was curious, and also I love museums. Like Tipsy Tailor, this scored great points for aesthetics. I loved the design and the art! I'm nowhere near a pro, so I enjoyed every puzzle, and my favorite one was such good use of the art theme. There's also a bonus mystery to solve, which was such a fun narrative twist! I'm sad this will be going away but based on how much I loved both of the rooms here, I'm excited for what the owners do next.
