Monster Mayhem
Ipanic Escape Room - St. Charles
Escape room
IRL
I really enjoyed this room. It feels more like a theme park experience with the production design and automatons that talk to you, but everything did work smoothly. It was pretty fun to navigate through the room, and unlike the Dragon Slayer in this room, the dialogue and automatons did not feel as frustrating in terms of how much time they took to go through their interactions. My criticism for this room is that it's just too easy. Often times, completing a puzzle would lead to the screens or dialogue just telling you the code you need. There is also a puzzle that involves you having to find a bunch of things scattered around the room, and we were never able to find all the items. We had to resort to guessing and checking to get through that puzzle. I do wish the monsters were integrated more into the puzzles, with each set of puzzles to get one of the data discs that you need being related to a specific monster.

I was very impressed with The Passage from this company, and I was excited to try their other 90 minute room after that. We drove over an hour to get here, yet everyone in my group felt it was worth it. It might not have the same wow factor as The Passage in terms of set design, but it does still feel like you are entering a governor's office. The clues and puzzles all feel purposeful instead of just random things you are solving to progress through the room, as if this person actually took a lot of care to keep their information safe. It's a challenging room, and with 4 people, it often felt like we were all doing different things at the same time in a very non-linear way. The GM was very nice and kept us focused on the right things without actually telling us how to solve the puzzles. There are some really clever things in this room, and I love the way the puzzles are integrated into the environment. It's a really fun room and a great option for those looking for a real challenge.

We were very impressed with the Killing Station! The GM was very sweet and has been a veteran in the escape room designing space since 2015. This is her new brand, and the unique name of the company reflects her approach to the room. From the very beginning when we needed to solve some puzzles to even enter the space, I knew this was going to be novel. To be honest, the room isn't the most high-budget, with the set design at times feeling a bit barebones. Still, the budget is used where it matters, and the puzzles are excellent. There are some really clever puzzles that I have never seen done before, and at times I told my partner there was no way that was what was going to be required, and it was. Having such unique puzzles and settings makes these rooms feel fresh even after all this time, and a GM who cares this much is the cherry on top.

This is one of my favorite rooms I've ever done which is saying something after doing more than a hundred rooms across numerous cities. As soon as we walked in, we were blown away by how beautiful the room looked. The production values are really amazing, but not in the over the top high tech way, but rather a real attention to detail and aesthetic. This room does multiple things I've never seen done before, some of which shocked us. This also made it feel truly challenging and not as intuitive since we didn't find the usual patterns from other escape rooms. The way the story is integrated into the room is also really well done. A must play, and it's great to see new rooms that are able to feel innovative and fresh even after all this time. Parker was out GM and was amazing, even after we accidently made a dumb mistake and dropped an important piece into a place we couldn't reach.

The GM at this location is really friendly and quite the character. He talked to us about a lot of his experiences with escape rooms in the area. He mentioned his room wasn't as impressive in terms of decor and effects, but we were honestly still impressed. Even if there weren't a ton of extra props, there is some cool tech and the unique theme really comes across. It's a hard room and the first that I haven't escaped from in a while. I thought most of the puzzles were fair outside of one of the very initial ones that had us stuck for a bit. I really enjoyed this experience

This room has some really excellent special effects, and the theme is very unique. I also really liked some of the puzzles. The thing preventing it from being one is my absolute favorites though is that some of the puzzles are finicky. We had the right answer but had to input it multiple times for it to register. Also there is a lot of dialogue you need to listen to which can eat up time, and at some points, they end up playing on top of each other due to the length. Still, it's a well made room with excellent production values
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

A really awesome escape room with excellent production values. There are lots of cool high tech elements, but I do really like that you actually go through a lot of the actual story of the Wizard of Oz. The atmosphere feels whimsical at times, and the puzzles were mostly intuitive though a few were a bit finicky. I do wish the tokens you are supposed to be collecting were a bit more evenly paced out throughout the room, but it's a very minor complaint for such an excellent room.

An awesome room designed and run by an excellent GM who felt like a true escape room enthusiast. I did find one puzzle slightly unintuitive, and there was a section that was a bit hard to do with only 2 people (though there was a workaround). However, outside of that, I loved the room. There is a story, and the production values are really high -- with everything actually fully functional. Without spoilers, there are some cool twists as you progress through the room that felt unlike anything I had seen done before. Also, the puzzles didn't feel like the typical variant of puzzles you find in escape rooms, with a lot of them being actually different and requiring multiple steps of logic to parse. I highly recommend it, even if it is a bit of a trek to get there. I hope I can try the other rooms here at some point.

Pretty cool immersive homage to Stranger Things. There are some things I haven't seen before despite doing so many rooms. I still don't love that the GM has to trigger the unlocking for some of the puzzles, but this room didn't feel like it had a lot of those moments like Ghost Light.

This was an awesome room, a very unique aesthetic involving arcades that I've never seen before despite how many I've done. Very impressive to see the arcade games repurposed for puzzles, and I loved how unique those all felt. There are a few scavenger hunt portions that we got stuck at, but beyond that, the setting and atmosphere and puzzles were all excellent.
