UCBackrooms: An Immersive Comedy ExperienceUpright Citizens Brigade TheatreEscape roomOther so UCB generally has a very high floor, but poetically, their Backrooms escape room sunk right through it. it’s very ballsy to advertise a fusion of escape room, horror immersion, & comedy. but to be clear, this was not an escape room. nor was it immersive. nor was it comedy. it was barely an experience. it wasn’t half-baked or quarter-baked or even eighth-baked… it was barely pan-touched when it would have tasted better raw. there was no ventilation, the actors kept saying how they’ve been doing this for 2 hrs and were tired, & our group was last so they shut everything down before we got to do it all bc they had the next show to set up. Backrooms was the most visually singular movie of the century, and they just taped bubble wrap to the walls.
